From June 25 to August 1, The Kitchen will present The Rehearsal, a group exhibition in which Courtesy the Artists, Discoteca Flaming Star and Georgia Sagri revisit an unreleased film by blacklisted, American film maker Jules Dassin. Filmed 40 years ago in the building that is now The Kitchen, Dassin's film, also tilted The Rehearsal, is a cinematic indictment of the Greek military junta (1967-74) and features Dassin, his wife, Greek actress Melina Mercouri, along with Laurence Olivier, Olympia Dukakis, Arthur Miller and Lillian Hellman, among others. For this exhibition, the artists will engage the themes, resonances and Brechtian structures of Dassin's work placing them in conversation with recent narratives of collective action for autonomy on the global stage.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Indiewire, in partnership with Film Comment magazine, announced the finalists for the third annual Locarno Film Festival's Critics Academy (August 10-16), a workshop for aspiring film critics that takes place during the festival. The program, which has a stateside component at the New York Film Festival, is designed to nurture promising film critics and journalists as they attend and cover screenings and events at the festival.
Coming of Age, a theatrical song cycle - a collection of short stories about growing up - will have its New York premiere this summer as an Official Selection of the 2014 New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) celebrating its 11th Anniversary Season. With a book, music and lyrics by Jon Provan, Coming of Age will be presented at Ford Foundation Studio Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Aves.). Bang on a Can: Other Primary Structures, a concert featuring Bang on a Can All-Stars Vicky Chow (piano) and David Cossin (percussion) with Dither Quartet guitarists Taylor Levine and James Moore, will take place at the Jewish Museum on Thursday, July 10 at 7:30pm. he Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the continuation of a summer tradition of showcasing great genre classics to beat the heat. Following the tradition of last summer's popular "Midnight Movies" series, each film in the new "Freaky Friday" series will kick off the weekend at 11pm and have the same weekly blend of mind-melting, gross-out horror as well as some rarely screened classic cult favorites in glorious 35mm, curated by Film Society programmer and Film Comment Editor Gavin Smith.

Road Less Traveled Productions (RLTP) today announced that cessation of film showings at the Market Arcade Film & Arts Centre does not displace RLTP. RLTP is working with the City of Buffalo, the current building owner, to maintain operations in the space during any transition and through a possible sale of the building by the City. Ultimately, what entity gains control of the building, and under what use plan, may affect RLTP's ability to stay in the space and still meet its non-profit mission of fiscal responsibility, community inclusion, and artistic collaboration. As it has throughout its history, RLTP will maintain its quality educational programming and live theatre regardless of its location.
