An ancient myth about blood and honor reveals the secret life of a Chinese theater troupe in the dark comedy 'Behind the Mask -- a Play' by Chinese authors Feng BaiMing and Huang WeiRuo, which is being newly adapted by Yangtze Repertory Theatre in a production helmed by Chinese-born director Chongren Fan. The play will be performed in Mandarin Chinese with English subtitles and will be completely accessible for English-speaking audiences. English translation is by Kristen Hung. This U.S. premiere will be presented by Yangtze Rep June 25 to July 12 at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, East Village.

An all-new THEATER TALK welcomes the key creative artists behind the new musical hit Fun Home – composer Jeanine Tesori, librettist/lyricist Lisa Kron, and author Alison Bechdel, who wrote and drew the bestselling graphic memoir that inspired the production. The show, now selling out at Circle in the Square, deals with the true story of Bechdel's relationship with her demanding father, her coming out in college as a lesbian that led her to learn of her father's closeted homosexuality, and his suicide, which followed this revelation.
Ensemble ACJW, an inspirational collective of young professional musicians, performs a program of classical and contemporary works at the Greenwich Village club SubCulture on Friday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. The program entitled "Balancing Act" includes music by Jennifer Higdon, Dvo?ak, Barber, Piazzolla, Webern, Poulenc, and David Lang - works that typify writing for winds, strings, and a delicate balance of those forces combined, and exemplify the collaborative elements inherent in Ensemble ACJW. June 11 - 13th, Williamsburg's Firehouse will host NYC's 2nd Annual Soundpainting Festival. The festival will feature performances by the country's leading Soundpainting ensembles and intensive workshops with Soundpainting's inventor, Walter Thompson. The festival will feature sixdifferent ensembles, led by six different Soundpainters. Each ensemble will showcase its unique application of the Soundpainting language andincludes the Brooklyn Soundpainting Company, Strike Anywhere Ensemble, Zaha, The New York Soundpainting Orchestra and the Brooklyn Sounpainitng Ensemble.
On view in The Lab, the exhibition features student artwork from the Drawing Connections program, which pairs practicing artists with teachers in Lower Manhattan public schools to develop projects that relate classroom curricula to exhibitions at The Drawing Center.
