Ensemble ACJW to Perform at SubCulture, 6/12
By: Tyler Peterson May. 19, 2015
Ensemble ACJW, an inspirational collective of young professional musicians, performs a program of classical and contemporary works at the Greenwich Village club SubCulture on Friday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. The program entitled "Balancing Act" includes music by Jennifer Higdon, Dvo?ák, Barber, Piazzolla, Webern, Poulenc, and David Lang - works that typify writing for winds, strings, and a delicate balance of those forces combined, and exemplify the collaborative elements inherent in Ensemble ACJW. The concert is their last performance of the season.
Created as a program of Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and the Weill Music Institute in partnership with the New York City Department of Education, Ensemble ACJW recently gave the world premiere performance of composer Meredith Monk's Backlight, a three-movement instrumental work commissioned by Carnegie Hall for the ensemble. The current fellows of Ensemble ACJW begin their second and final year of the program at the start of the 2015-2016 season with four Carnegie Hall concerts that include works by Brahms, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Ives, and Copland; and the premiere of a new work by Ted Hearne, commissioned by Carnegie Hall. About the ArtistsEnsemble ACJW is made up of some of the finest young professional classical musicians in the United States who are taking part in a two-year fellowship program created in 2007 by Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and the Weill Music Institute in partnership with the New York City Department of Education. The program prepares fellows for careers that combine musical excellence with teaching, community engagement, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership by offering them top-quality performance opportunities, intensive professional development, and the opportunity to partner throughout the fellowship with a New York City public school.
