Lawrence Edelson, Founder and Producing Artistic Director of American Lyric Theater (ALT), announced today the selection of two Dramaturg Apprentices who will join the Composer Librettist Development Program at ALT as Resident Artists for the 2018-19 season: Hannah McDermottand Katherine Pitt.
Playwrights Horizons (Artistic Director Tim Sanford, Managing Director Leslie Marcus) will, from today, November 12, through Thursday, November 15, accept entries for the Live for Five online lottery, giving out $5 tickets to the New York premiere production of Noura, from 9 Parts of Desire playwright and actor Heather Raffo and director Joanna Settle. The Washington Post deemed this "epic-feeling, nearly searing portrait of a woman torn between cultures and family" the "best premiere of the Women's Voices Theater Festival" when it made its world premiere in Washington, D.C. earlier this year. Produced in association with Shakespeare Theatre Company, it will be performed at Playwrights Horizons from November 27 to December 30. Playwrights Horizons created Live for Five in 2007 as part of their Arts Access program to reach out to those who may not be able to afford the cost of a full-price theater ticket. Since its inception, over 3,000 theatergoers have been able to attend the theater thanks to the initiative.
Pam Tanowitz has begun to choreograph a dance on the Paul Taylor Dance Company (PTDC) to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach as a Guest Resident Choreographer of Paul Taylor American Modern Dance (PTAMD). Ms. Tanowitz was selected by Paul Taylor prior to his death in August. Her new work will premiere as part of Orchestra of St. Luke's Bach Festival next June, and will then be part of PTAMD's Fall Lincoln Center Season.

The Choral Composer/Conductor Collective will present Premieres II: A Choral Composition Workshop Concerts, as part of its 2018-19 season. This is the second of two workshops, the first concert having been held on October 13. The Kitchen presents Leila Bordreuil's Piece for Cello and Double Bass Ensemble II, the newest in her series of compositions for amplified cello and six double-basses, which she began in 2015. This work will feature her largest and loudest ensemble yet, creating a violent wall of sound as she uses varied amps and microphones to give immense proportions and unrecognizable textures to acoustic instruments. The piece, with roots in musique concrete, contemporary noise, and even spectral music, features Zach Rowden, Sean Ali, Britton Powell, Greg Chudzik, Nick Dunston, and Vinicius Ciccone Cajado. The event will feature opening acts by improvisational vocalist Charmaine Lee on November 20 and Dylan Scheer (also known as Via App) on November 21. Organized by Tim Griffin.

When Michael Whistler's "Casse Noisette (A Fairy Ballet)" opens at Catskill's intimate Bridge Street Theatre this Thursday, November 8th, it will celebrate a LOT of firsts: It will mark the first full production the play has ever received. Four members of its five-person cast will be making their Bridge Street Theatre debuts. Four of the five actors will be the first-ever residents of the theatre's brand-new upstairs artist housing. And this will be the first time the theatre has ever used a front curtain, opening and closing to reveal new wonders at each turn in the plot.
