NYMF’s Next Broadway Sensation Winner Dawn Cantwell to Play Joe's Pub, 2/25

The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) and Sh-K-Boom Records will present NYMF's Next Broadway Sensation winner Dawn Cantwell in Concert. Dawn Cantwell will perform at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street) on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 11:30pm. The concert is directed by Travis Griesler, with musical direction by Alexander Rovang. Tickets, priced at $15 in advance and $20 at the door, are currently available at: www.joespub.com or by calling 212-967-7555.

MY OHIO, RIO, et al. Included in NYMF's 2012 Next Link Project

The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) today announced the selections for the 2012 Next Link Project, NYMF's primary writer service program. The Next Link Project empowers emerging musical theatre writing teams as both artists and entrepreneurs by providing the training and relationships needed to help them move their musicals from readings to fully-realized productions and to advance their careers by maximizing the exposure they receive in the Festival. Ten of the Festival's full production slots are reserved for participants in The Next Link Project.

Parallel Exit Presents I LOVE BOB, 7/20-29

New York City's Drama Desk-nominated Parallel Exit returns to the Joyce SoHo for the third time, to present the world premiere of I LOVE BOB, an evening-length comic ballet, from July 20-29, 2012 at 7:30pm at Joyce SoHo, 155 Mercer Street (between Houston & Prince). The performance on Saturday, July 28 is a benefit and tickets are $150.

Photo Flash: First Look at Old Globe's SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL

The Old Globe today announced principal casting for the Globe's 2012 Shakespeare Festival. Craig Noel Award winner Jay Whittaker returns to the Festival for his third consecutive season to appear in the title role of William Shakespeare's Richard III. He will also appear as Oliver in Shakespeare's As You Like It. Also returning to the Festival are Craig Noel Award winner Robert Foxworth and Adrian Sparks, who will take to the courtroom floor as titanic lawyers Henry Drummond and Matthew Harrison Brady, respectively, in the Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee classic Inherit the Wind. Foxworth, an Old Globe Associate Artist, will also play Lord Hastings in Richard III, and Sparks will play Lord Mayor of London in Richard III and Corin in As You Like It. Festival veteran Dana Green will star as Rosalind, and Dan Amboyer, new to the Festival stage, will play Orlando, the object of her affections, in As You Like It. Green will also play Queen Elizabeth in Richard III. Amboyer will also be featured as Bertram Cates in Inherit the Wind and the Earl of Richmond in Richard III. Festival newcomer Jacques C. Smith will play Jacques in As You Like It, the Duke of Buckingham in Richard III and Mr. Meeker in Inherit the Wind. Adrian Noble returns for his third outing as Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Festival and will helm As You Like It and Inherit the Wind. Renowned British director Lindsay Posner makes his debut at the Globe with his production of Richard III. Noble recently directed the World Premiere stage version of The King's Speech, which is currently touring England, and Posner's hit revival of Noises Off is currently playing at London's Old Vic and will transfer to the West End in March. The 2012 Shakespeare Festival, performed in repertory in the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, runs June 3 - Sept. 30, 2012.

SHAKESPEARE ON THE SOUND Welcomes Steven Yuhasz as Executive Director

Shakespeare on the Sound, Connecticut's premier outdoor free Shakespeare company, today announced that Steven Yuhasz has joined the organization as its new Executive Director. Yuhasz replaces Emily Bryan, who is now the organization's Director of Education. This is the first Executive Director in the organization's 17 year history.

New Musical: Boy in the Bathroom at the Bloomington Playwrights Project

The Boy in the Bathroom, by Michael Lluberes, follows David, a young man who lives in his bathroom. He never comes out, at least not for the past year. David has obsessive-compulsive disorder and he's not going anywhere... until he meets Julie, and discovers that there might be something - or someone - on the other side of the door that will make it worth opening.

Allan Harris, Michael Lanning, et al. Set for CROSS THAT RIVER Reading, 1/26

Theatre Aspen is holding a private reading of the new musical Cross That River on Thursday, January 26th, in New York City. The musical is subtitled "a new musical about the black west" with a book by Allan & Pat Harris and Andrew Carl Wilk and music and lyrics by Allan Harris (based on an original story by Allan & Pat Harris).

Anthony Rapp, Dee Roscioli, James Kautz Set for DEDALUS LONGUE, 1/12-30

Interart Theatre and Royal Family Productions (RFP) are proud to announce that Anthony Rapp (RENT) and Dee Roscioli (Wicked) and James Kautz (Amoralists) will star in the US premiere of Dedalus Lounge written by Irish playwright Gary Duggan, directed by RFP's Chris Henry, with original musical by Anthony Rapp and Daniel A. Weiss. Dedalus Lounge will begin performances January 8 and will open on January 12 and will initially run through January 30, 2012 at the Interart Theatre Annex (500 West 52 Street, 2nd Floor). Tovah Feldshuh Headlines GYPSY at Bristol Riverside Theatre, 12/6-1/15

Powerhouse Broadway veteran Tovah Feldshuh stars in Gypsy at Bristol Riverside Theatre as part of its 25th Anniversary Season on December 6-January 15. With music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Arthur Laurents, the production is directed by Keith Baker and also features Robert Newman, Amanda Rose, Brittney Lee Hamilton, Joe Grandy, Bethe B. Austin, Kathryn Kendall, and Demetria Joyce Bailey.
