Big Bang Theory. Horn rimmed glasses. Comic Con. It seems like nerds are everywhere these days -- and on the forefront of culture and fashion. Now, Epic Win, RAWR & D20 Burlesque will showcase the sexy side of nerds at the 1st annual NERDLESQUE FESTIVAL. For four days, from April 3rd through April 6th, burlesque performers from all over the world will unite in New York City to celebrate nerd chic. The schedule of events for this weekend by and for dweebs, dorks, geeks, freaks and their admirers is as follows:
The long-running No Name Comedy / Variety Show brings New York's best established and upcoming authors and storytellers including Nelson Lugo, Lisa Kirchner, Daniel Guzman, Robin Bady and Tommy Pryor to Washington Heights on Tuesday, March 4th for their monthly series: 'No Name @ Word Up Super Storytellers' Edition', at the Word Up Community Bookshop (165th Street & Amsterdam Avenue).
The Musical Theatre Factory (MTF) presents a showcase production of THE DISAPPEARING MAN, a new folk opera with book, music, and lyrics by Jahn Sood. This production follows a sold-out concert at Joe's Pub and a standing-room-only development reading in the spring of 2013. THE DISAPPEARING MAN takes place backstage at a small-time travelling circus in 1936. When the headliner is offered another job, the motley troupe must decide whether to adapt to the change or fight to keep the family together.
