Ensemble Studio Theatre Launches 35th Marathon of One-Act Plays Today

The Ensemble Studio Theatre Marathon of One-Act Plays, the original festival of its kind, returns for its 35th incarnation, tonight, May 13, at 7:00pm at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, 549 West 52nd Street. 

Naked Angels to Premiere SEAWIFE at South Street Seaport, 6/23-7/19

The dynamic downtown theater company Naked Angels, under the leadership of new Artistic Director Liz Carlson, presents the World Premiere of SeaWife, a new folk concert play co-created by Seth Moore (The Man With America Skin) and indie-folk rock sextet The Lobbyists.  SeaWife will play a limited engagement June 23 - July 19, 2015 at South Street Seaport Museum's Melville Gallery (213 Water Streeet) in New York's historic South Street Seaport district. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. The production's official Opening Night will be Thursday, June 25.

On April 25, Council Member Margaret Chin and other local officials joined the South Street Seaport Museum to kick off a new season of programming on the institution's historic vessels. The all-day event drew several thousand visitors to the Seaport and more than doubled active membership for the South Street Seaport Museum. Rubicon Theatre Sets Director, Cast for OTHER DESERT CITIES

Rubicon Theatre Company Producing Artistic Director Karyl Lynn Burns today announced the director and cast for OTHER DESERT CITIES, Jon Robin Baitz's highly lauded story about a family in the public eye whose members must find a new way forward when each person's beliefs and illusions related to a pivotal family event are called into question. Filled with richly drawn characters, dramatic plot elements, and witty social commentary, OTHER DESERT CITIES garnered five Tony nominations and was awarded Outstanding Play by the Outer Critics Circle. The show takes its title from a sign off California's I-10 freeway where one continues on to Palm Springs or exits toward "Other Desert Cites."

The Shakespeare Theatre to Open Season with THE ROYAL FAMILY

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's 53rd Season opens with The Royal Family, the Tony Award-winning American classic by George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber. Performances begin Wednesday, May 27th and continue through Sunday, June 21st at the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre, 36 Madison Avenue (at Lancaster Road) in Madison. Salty Brine announces the premiere of a new cabaret, Second Hand News, as the next installment in his series, Salty Brine's Spectacular Living Record Collection Cabaret.  Salty Brine's Spectacular Living Record Collection Cabaret, which performs on Wednesdays as part of Brine's residency at The Red Room (85 E. 4th St.), explores a different iconic album each month in a live cabaret setting.  Second Hand News, inspired by Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, will run on May 6, 13, 20 and 27 with doors opening at 7:30pm and shows beginning at 8:00pm.

Fernanda Coppel, Halley Feiffer and Benjamin Scheuer to Launch Williamstown Theatre Festival's New Play, Musical Commissioning Programs

Williamstown Theatre Festival Artistic Director Mandy Greenfield has announced a New Play Commissioning Program and New Musical Commissioning Program, through which the Festival will commission and develop three to five projects annually from playwrights, composers and collaborative devisers from across the career spectrum. The program launches with inaugural artists Fernanda Coppel (whose new play King Liz premieres this summer at Second Stage), Halley Feiffer (I'm Gonna Pray for You So Hard, which just finished an acclaimed run at the Atlantic Theater Company), and Benjamin Scheuer (creator of the current Off Broadway hit The Lion). Each commission also includes a writing residency at Williamstown Theatre Festival.
