The New York Philharmonic will present The Art of Andriessen, October 4-14, 2018, celebrating Music Director Jaap van Zweden's Dutch compatriot Louis Andriessen, the third recipient of The Marie-Josee Kravis Prize for New Music at the New York Philharmonic. 

Some shows move you. Some shows run a chill up your spine. Some shows leave makeup and tears streaming down your face. This was my experience sitting in the intimate Circle in the Square Theatre, where 'Fun Home' premiered on Broadway in 2015 after an Off-Broadway run in 2013. More than three years later I experienced the same rush of emotions at Smithtown Performing Arts Center's production.

The New York Philharmonic announces details for the two new-music series it is inaugurating in the 2018-19 season: GRoW @ Annenberg Sound ON and Kravis Nightcap. Both series present the music of today in casual settings, hosted by The Marie-Josee Kravis Creative Partner Nadia Sirota, who will engage in conversation with the composers and performers.

Fun Home opens on Saturday, September 8th at Smithtown Performing Arts Center.

The Washington Ballet is excited to launch its season opener TWB Welcomes at the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater. The program, which includes acclaimed highlights from choreographers Alexei Ratmansky and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, as well as iconic masterworks (likeSerenade and Les Sylphides), provides a highly curated production that defines ballet as an art form over the last century. TWB Welcomes is named so because the company will play host to the audience and also welcome internationally recognized stars of the dance world who will share the stage as guest artists alongside TWB dancers.

Yesterday with its 60 Years of Musical Theatre: The Best of Maine State Music Theatre gala concert, the Brunswick theatre pulled out all the stops with a big, beautiful Diamond Jubilee gala that proved a stunning culmination to this milestone season. In a matinee and evening stagings that featured musical performances by twenty-one soloists and an ensemble of ten, as well a number of spoken tributes, Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark architected a program that was classy, heartfelt, and rich and deep in the talent it showcased. As with any commemorative event, the program tapped into nostalgia and memory but blended these with a strong sense of the vigorous, energetic, imposing presence this company has become - not only in Midcoast Maine but also as a force in national regional theatre.

Wells novel, a group of plane crash survivors end up on a seemingly deserted beach with only the clothes on their backs. They begin searching the island for supplies, but they quickly learn that they are not alone. This show uses movement, sound, and text to craft a chilling atmosphere that is sure to haunt audiences long after the curtains close.

Based on Julie Otsuka's novel The Buddha in the Attic, Certaines n'Avaient Jamais Vu La Mer, in performance in the Avignon Theatre Festival's Cloitre des Carmes, is a look at the lives of Japanese immigrants in America from the turn of the 20th century to FDR's internment camps. Director Richard Brunel's multimedia and elemental staging is supremely inventive, and the performances spark with vitality. Those familiar with the history might find themselves treading familiar territory. However, Certaines n'Avaient Jamais Vu La Mer can serve for some as a theatrically dynamic introduction to one of America's great historic shames.

LifelineTheatre presents Frankenstein, adapted by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Robert Kauzlaric and directed by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Paul S. Holmquist. In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the publication of Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, Kauzlaric and Holmquist, creators of The Island of Dr. Moreau in 2007 (winner of five Non-Equity Jeff Awards, including Production-Play and New Adaptation), return to the world of psychological suspense.
