For the last decade, the Shaw Festival has been introducing contemporary theatre's most illustrious playwrights into the playbill alongside their classical forebears. Like Bernard Shaw himself, these writers delight in questioning assumptions, subverting expectations and creating compelling theatre that unites head and heart. The 2013 season goes even further with the inclusion of plays by Brian Friel, Tom Stoppard, John Murrell and Adam Guettel.
Terminus was a smash-hit at last year's Summerworks Festival, and now it is the first offering in the inaugural Off-Mirvish Season. The new endeavour from Mivish Productions aims to showcase smaller, independent works to a larger audience within Toronto. BWW spoke to Terminus director Mitchell Cushman about the show, and about how he feels getting the chance to showcase it to a larger audience.

The Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts held its 20th Anniversary Gala on October the 15th, 2012. This event gathered over 200 friends, family, and alumni at the Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto. Together, they enjoyed a dinner and an alumni studded concert. The Honorary Chair of the evening was David Mirvish of Mirvish Productions, who spoke about the long-standing relationship that the Randolph Academy and Mirvish Productions has shared since the Academy's founding in 1992.

The 1st National Tour of Sister Act opened at the Ed Mirvish Theatre last week to an audience that included local critics, nuns and even some would-be Dorothys. The show, featuring original music by Alan Menken, is based on the popular 1992 movie of the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg. This new production is a fun treat for the whole family, with memorable tunes and some stand-out performances.

The Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts is simultaneously celebrating its 20th year, and has renovated the large theatre that is part of the Randolph Centre for the Performing Arts building. The Bathurst Street Theatre, located at 736 Bathurst St., will now be known as the Randolph Theatre, named after the President and Founder of the Academy, George C. Randolph Jr.

After clinching a spot in the top 20 for CBC's OVER THE RAINBOW - the televised search for Dorothy - contestants arrived from all across Canada to be put through their paces at Dorothy Farm. Following their arrival, Canada's Top 20 Dorothys traveled to Dorothy Farm, located in beautiful Bethany Hills, ON, vying for a Top 10 spot on the show. Check out photos from the trip below!

Two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz will join Katie Holmes on Broadway this fall in DEAD ACCOUNTS, the new comedy by Theresa Rebeck, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien. The New York Musical Theatre Festival has added a performance for Mitch Magonet and Joey Miller's RIO, directed by Scott Faris. RIO, will play from July 10 - 18, 2012.at St. Clements Church (423 W. 46th Street). RIO, is being produced by Pinny Gniwisch. The additional show will take place on Monday, July 16 at 1PM.
