Les Miserables opened on October 9th in Toronto, kicking off the 50th Anniversary Season for Mirvish Productions and marking the long-awaited Canadian return of the mega musical. The new '25th Anniversary Production' has been receiving rave reviews, and is Broadway bound in March of 2014. Toronto's acclaimed Theatre Gargantua (TG) opened the world premiere of The Sacrifice Zone on November 14, marking the Canadian debut of Australian playwright Suzie Miller of The Uncertainty Principle and the culmination of the company's tenth cycle of work. The Sacrifice Zone runs to November 30, 2013 at the Factory Studio Theatre.
Torontonians who love musical theatre seem to have something to shout about this morning, as The Toronto Star is reporting the Broadway smash hit musical 'NEWSIES' will grace our stages in 2015 as part of the Mirvish 2014-2015 season. The newspaper states this is as yet unconfirmed by Mirvish Productions or Disney Theatrical, but suggests that Toronto will see 'an exclusive six-week premiere engagement at the Princess of Wales'

Directed by Jacquie P.A. Thomas, Artistic Director of Theatre Gargantua, The Sacrifice Zone is a dynamic investigation into the harrowing pursuit of justice after a fatal explosion in an industry town dedicated to resource extraction. The Sacrifice Zone opens November 14 and runs to November 30 (previews November 13) at the Factory Studio Theatre.
Ramin Karimloo is no stranger to the stage, he's had an impressive career making a name for himself in productions such as The Phantom of the Opera, Love Never Dies and Les Miserables on the West End. That said, Karimloo has yet to perform in a production on a Toronto stage, despite spending most of his childhood growing up in Richmond Hill and attending Toronto theatre. Now Mirvish Productions has brought him home to Toronto, where he will perform the lead role of Jean Valjean in the Canadian Premiere of the 25th Anniversary Production of Les Miserables. On Tuesday morning members of the press and the Toronto theatre community gathered at the historic Royal Alexandra Theatre to join David Mirvish in celebrating fifty years of the Mirvish family producing theatre in Toronto. The theatre was packed with people eager to hear what new shows were being added on to the previously announced 50th Anniversary Season, but also excited to celebrate the extensive contributions Mirvish have made to the city of Toronto and to our theatre community.
Last February, BWW announced that Les Miserables would be kicking off Mirvish Productions exciting 50th Anniversary season in Toronto! Also announced at that time were Aladdin, Once, Arrabal, Metamorphosis, Heartbeat of Home and The Last Confession, as well as Dead Metaphor and God of Carnage as part of the Off-Mirvish season. This morning, Torontonians were treated to a very special media event which both celebrated the Mirvish family's commitment to Toronto theatre over the past fifty years, and also announced exciting new additions to the milestone season, effectively making it the largest season the company has ever mounted.

Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino has announced the 2014 season, in which, through the prism of a dozen plays, the Stratford Festival will explore the theme of Madness: Minds Pushed to the Edge.
On Tuesday night, the red carpet was rolled out at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre as Mirvish Productions presented the opening of The Rascals: Once Upon a Dream. The show is produced and directed by Steven Van Zandt and features all four original band members. The show sold out on Broadway, and is being dubbed as a mix between a dance party and a jukebox musical in the style of 'Jersey Boys'.

Artistic Director Ken Gass has announced venues, casting and dates for three Canadian Rep Theatre productions that will comprise its 2013/14 inaugural season. The playbill features new works by three of Canada's leading playwrights: the English-language premiere of PACAMAMBO by Wajdi Mouawad (translated by Shelley Tepperman); the world premiere of WATCHING GLORY DIE by Judith Thompson; and the Canadian premiere of DEAD METAPHOR by George F. Walker.
