BIRDLAND JAZZ CLUB will present the return of Julie Benko – direct from Broadway’s smash hit revival of Funny Girl – with her band “Euphonic Gumbo” on Monday, February 6 at 7:00 PM.

Usually on the stage in the solos spot, Seth Sikes and Nicolas King are trying their hands at a duo show and they are bringing all their brassy, belty boy best to the stage.

This release marks the veteran vocalist’s 60th anniversary as a recording artist, and her first album in over a decade. Recorded at the legendary New York jazz boite in September 2019, she was joined by an all-star trio, including the late Mike Renzi on piano, Jay Leonhart on bass, and Scott Hamilton on saxophone. Angela Bacari is 78 years young. But nothing in either her appearance of performance belies that fact. The woman has pipes and she knows how to use them. She is a jazz stylist who can rank with some of the greats. She can belt to the rafters but is also capable of very tender passages. She has an amazingly supple technique, which explains why she is so in demand as a vocal coach to the stars, counting Liza Minelli, Marisa Berenson, Deana Martin, and Billy Gilman among her protegés. She has appeared on The Merv Griffin Show, and The Dinah Shore Show as well as opening for Rodney Dangerfield, Phyllis Diller, Bill Cosby, and Pat Cooper. But last night, she was the headliner and the crowd went wild for her. It was been nearly 40 years since Ms. Bacari has made an appearance on the NY stage and it is highly overdue.

Renzi was musical director for Peggy Lee and Mel Torme for over 25 years. He also worked on Sesame Street as the music director for seasons 31 through 40 and recorded Our First Christmas with singer Cynthia Crane and leads the Mike Renzi Trio.

Jessica Vosk, who starred most recently as Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway, will make her Broadway @ The Art House series debut on Monday, August 30th at 7:00 PM, with Seth Rudetsky as pianist and host

Over the next five weeks alone, between now and Labor Day weekend, The Art House and Town Hall in Provincetown will host a “who’s who” constellation of Broadway award-winners and music & comedy all-stars with no less than sixteen individual shows opening across the two venues’ three stages.
