IRT to Present New York Premiere of Veronica Cooper and Adam Thomas Smith's WAKE UP CALL
by Ashlee Latimer
- Nov 21, 2016
The IRT Theater presents Veronica Cooper & Adam Thomas Smith's Wake Up Call, a 90-minute contemporary play set in the lobby of a luxury boutique hotel in New York City. In the midst of an unexpected double shift (on Christmas Eve, no less) a group of degenerate hotel employees stumble their way through an unusual night of service. It's a 'coming of age when you're already of age' story. Sometimes it takes a miracle to grow the hell up. While navigating through the misadventures of the evening, from outlandish guests to unpredictable coworkers, we follow their journey into adulthood. Sort of.

Now Brian Wallace's new parody, Trump's Island, for better or worse, is the newest example of punchline prophecy as it is the only new play that predicted the outcome of Election 2016.

Mike Daisey's pre-Election monologue, THE TRUMP CARD, is a no holds barred diatribe to the choir about the 2016 celebrity candidate for the Presidency. Stray Cat Theatre's Ron May channels the author's snark and sarcasm with an intensity that is raw and visceral and engaging.
