Review: DO NOT REMOVE LABEL is a Hilarious, Brilliant Piece of Theatre

The audience had one heckuva good time at the opening night of Desert Ensemble Theatre's (DET's) DO NOT REMOVE LABEL, a hilarious world-premiere farce that also includes serious elements and political satire. The play achieves a humor trifecta: Laughs from the clever script by DET's artistic director, Jerome Elliott Moskowitz; laughs from the great staging by director Michael Pacas; and laughs from the top-notch cast members' rubber facial expressions.

Review: A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER at Desert Theatreworks

How can eight murders onstage bring an audience to laughter that almost raises the roof? I suggest you get to Desert Theatreworks' production of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder to find out for yourself! Great music, acting, directing and sets - this show has it all.

BWW Review: GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER is a Feast at Desert Theatreworks.

Desert Theatreworks has mounted another must-see production with GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER, Todd Kreidler's stage adaptation of the beloved Spencer Tracy - Katherine Hepburn motion picture. The direction, the acting, and the technical design and execution of the comedic drama are first-rate.

BWW Review: CYRANO DE BERGERAC SHINES at Palm Canyon Theatre.

Although the technical aspects of the production are fabulous, the crown jewels here are what goes on on the stage. The sword fighting is impressive. Even the scene changes provide their own hilarious entertainment - while baroque music plays, a group of dancing and clowning nuns move the scenery. Saving the best for last, the acting in this production is extraordinary.

BWW Previews: CYRANO DE BERGERAC at Palm Canyon Theatre

Palm Canyon Theatre (PCT) is presenting Cyrano de Bergerac, the classic French story of “unrequited” love.  Under the guidance of PCT founder Dr. William Layne, the nineteenth century work is presented with a modern translation with lots of comedy, sword play, and of course the heart-wrenching drama of a man whose looks prohibit him from pursuing the woman his heart longs for.

BWW Review: I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES Is Both Sweet and Saucy

Desert Theatreworks has produced another winner: Neil Simon’s I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES. This story, with its emphasis on rekindling father-daughter love, is deeper than many of his plays. The two casts make the audience care about the characters. Director Daniela Ryan has done a superb job of coaxing brilliant performances from both.

BWW Review: ALWAYS....PATSY CLINE at Desert Theatreworks

In the past two decades I have had several opportunities to see Always, Patsy Cline and I always avoided the show, thinking 'A two-woman show can't be entertaining and besides, I don't like country music.' Please, please do not make the mistake I did. This show has only a few more performances in the Coachella Valley, and it is an incredibly entertaining and moving experience. Part celebrity concert, part Hallmark heart-warming tale, Desert Theatreworks' current production is a must-see!

BWW Review: THE PRODUCERS at Desert Theatreworks

THE PRODUCERS, the first post-lockdown Desert Theatreworks (DTW) show, is perfect to welcome eager audiences back - a true winner. Ron and Lance Phillips, the married couple that operates DTW, took the opportunity of the hiatus to completely rework the Indio Performing Arts Center, adding a new 250-seat main stage for musicals. As most people know, the Mel Brooks show is loaded with bad taste, but is hilarious nonetheless.

BWW Review: THE GUYS at Palm Canyon Theatre

To commemorate the 20th anniversary Palm Canyon Theatre (PCT) will present The Guys, a play by Anne Nelson.  The play is about the aftereffects of the collapse of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

BWW Review: THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL at Desert Rose Playhouse

The Desert Rose Playhouse production of THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL is currently running in the company's new location in Palm Springs. The show features fabulous performances and design, and terrific direction by Robbie Wayne. Combined with David Nehls' clever lyrics and tuneful music (reminiscent of GREASE), audiences are sure to have a good time.

Palm Canyon Theatre Presents FROM BROADWAY WITH LOVE -- BACKWARDS! Just In Time For Valentines

Palm Canyon Theatre will present a Valentine-themed concert fundraiser, From Broadway with Love… Backwards, with about 21 performers including many favorite company members and special guests. Although the concert is an annual fundraiser for the 24-year-old theatre, this year – with so many things a little different – PCT decided to “flip the script.” During the concert, men will sing songs originally written for women, and women will sing songs originally written for men.
