The Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP) has announced that it is a grantee recipient of Bloomberg Philanthropies' Arts Innovation and Management (AIM) program. Through the two-year initiative, Bloomberg Philanthropies is providing $30 million across 262 small and mid-sized nonprofit cultural organizations around the country to help strengthen their operational and programming efforts, including training in fundraising, audience development and board member engagement. Just over a year ago, Philadelphia Theatre Company's South Broad Street home was foreclosed on by the bank. Now according to Newsworks, one of the theatre's major benefactors, Suzanne Roberts, has just given a $2.5 million grant under the condition of company reorganization, which will be headed by the Kennedy Center's Michael Kaiser. Roberts's spokesperson Kevin Feeley told Newsworks: 'Just by the fact that he's joined us, he's implied - he's not implied, he's told us - he thinks there's something here to work with. We think there's a good chance for the theater going forward.' (more...)

For its 22nd annual Spring Gala, the Kennedy Center will salute the more than 13 year tenure of Kennedy Center president Michael M. Kaiser with Camelot in Concert on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall. The famed 1960 musical features book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner with music by Frederick Loewe and this semi-staged concert version will be adapted, directed and choreographed by Tony AwardŽ nominee Marcia Milgrom Dodge. The concert staging will be accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Music Director James Moore. With this concert, Camelot makes its Kennedy Center debut. David M. Rubenstein, Chairman of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, today announced the selection of Deborah F. Rutter as the next Kennedy Center president. Ms. Rutter currently serves as the President of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association and will assume her Kennedy Center duties on September 1, 2014.
