Two-time Academy Award winner, Michael Caine, will receive the ShoWest 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award, it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event, which will be held March 30-April 2, 2009, in Las Vegas. Caine will be presented with the ShoWest Lifetime Achievement Award at ShoWest's Final Night Banquet and Award Ceremony on Thursday, April 2, at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.

Barrington Stage Company Announces 2009 15th Anniversary Season

Barrington Stage Company, under the leadership of Julianne Boyd, Artistic Director, and Richard M. Parison, Jr., Producing Director, announce the theatre?s 15th Anniversary Season. Opening on the Mainstage will be Rodgers and Hammerstein?s musical masterpiece Carousel from June 17 through July 11. BSC will present its first thriller, the Tony Award-winning play Sleuth by Anthony Shaffer, from July 16 through August 1. Tennessee Williams? landmark play A Streetcar Named Desire will conclude the Mainstage summer season from August 6 through 29. The Mainstage fall show will be announced at a later date. On Stage 2, receiving its world premiere is Mark St. Germain?s Freud?s Last Session from June 10 through 28. Glen Berger?s hit Off-Broadway play Underneath the Lintel will play on Stage 2 from July 8 though 26.

MAMMA MIA! Bollywood Bound?

UK paper the Telegraph is reporting that Michael Caine's classic film The Italian Job is to be remade as a Bollywood release with Indian cars replacing the famous Mini Coopers. But what was most interesting in the article was Sandeep Bhargava, the Chief Executive of Indian Film Company, comments that Bollywood versions of Mamma Mia! and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels might follow. British actress Rebecca Hall was cast as jetsetting Caroline Cushing, one of the few women who might tame notorious lothario David Frost. Ex-wife of wealthy socialite Howard Cushing, she met Frost shortly before he met with Nixon to propose the interview series; Cushing remained his girlfriend for several years thereafter. A former secretary to columnist Liz Smith, she later became successful Hollywood editor Caroline Graham.

At last night's Visit London People's Choice Awards 2008 held at the Royal Albert Hall and hosted by Johnny Vaughan and Lisa Snowdon, JERSEY BOYS won the 95.8 Capital FM Best West End Show Award, an award voted for by Londoners and visitors to London. Other winners included Michael Caine, voted London's Favourite Londoner, and the O2, which won 95.8 Capital FM Best Music Venue Award.

Sam Mendes Begins Production On New Screenplay

Production begins in Connecticut this week on an untitled contemporary comedy directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty) from an original screenplay by Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida. The film is being produced and co-financed by Big Beach, with Focus Features co-financing and distributing worldwide.
