Artists at Play hosts its annual Summer Salon at the Armory Center for the Arts on Saturday, May 28. The Summer Salon includes a champagne brunch and a special presentation of Dinner with Friends by Donald Margulies, directed by Artists at Play founding member, Peter J. Kuo.

I have long been a fan of plays that present an insider's look at what goes on behind-the-scenes at a theatrical production. A fine example of such a backstage farce is Sarah Ruhl's STAGE KISS, skillfully directed by Bart DeLorenzo who knows exactly how to make the most outrageous stage antics and romances seem not only probable but incredibly hysterical thanks to Sarah Ruhl's fast-paced script that leads us on-stage, back-stage and out the stage door as reality collides with fiction in this raucous and revealing relationship comedy.

Musical Theatre Guild, the winner of the Los Angeles Drama Critic's Circle Margaret Harford Award for sustained excellence in the theatre, will continue their 20thAnniversary Season with the Broadway musical A CLASS ACT. The one-night-only concert will take place at Glendale's historic Alex Theatre on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at 7:00 PM.

American Conservatory Theater continues its 2015-16 season with Monstress, two world-premiere one-act plays about love, longing, and the American dream. Based on the short stories by Lysley Tenorio, Monstress was adapted for the stage by Bay Area playwrights Philip Kan Gotanda and Sean San Jose.

The cast of new musical DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, which opened on April 21st and closed on May 10th, 2015 at the Broadway Theatre, hit the recording studio this spring to prepare for the release of the show's original cast recording, which is now available via Broadway Records HERE. Authors include composer Lucy Simon (The Secret Garden), lyricists Michael Korie (Grey Gardens) and Amy Powers (the two multi-platinum Sunset Boulevard hits) and book writer Michael Weller (screenwriter for Hair and Ragtime). The new musical DOCTOR ZHIVAGO will play its final performance at the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway), Sunday May 10, 2015. DOCTOR ZHIVAGO will have played 26 preview and 23 regular performances.

Based on Boris Pasternak's Nobel Prize-winning 20th-century epic Russian masterpiece, Doctor Zhivago is directed by Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys), with a book by Michael Weller (Ragtime), music byLucy Simon (The Secret Garden), lyrics by Michael Korie (Grey Gardens) and Amy Powers (Ella Enchanted), and choreography by Kelly Devine (Rocky). DOCTOR ZHIVAGO will be back on Broadway duty tonight, April 3, BroadwayWorld has confirmed. Following the cancellation of last night's preview due to leading man Tam Mutu's illness, performances will officially resume tonight at the Broadway Theatre with Mutu's understudy, Bradley Dean, in the role of Yurii Zhivago.
