Melba Moore at Comes to SOPAC 11/11

Four-time Grammy Award nominee, and Tony Award winner Melba Moore has been crossing genres from Broadway to recording star to television personality since the early '70s. Never willing to stand still, Melba Moore has continued to perform in all genres and has remained one of the most enduring artists of the 21st century. She will bring her powerhouse vocal skills to SOPAC on Friday, November 11 at 8 p.m.

Court Theatre presents FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE

Court Theatre, under the continuing leadership of Charles Newell, Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director, and Stephen J. Albert, Executive Director, opens its 2017-2018 season with Five Guys Named Moe by Clarke Peters, directed by Resident Artist Ron OJ Parson, Music Director Abdul Hamid Royal and Associate Director Felicia P. Fields. Five Guys Named Moe, which features Louis Jordan's greatest hits, runs September 7 - October 8, 2017 at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Ave. The press opening is September 16, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.

Byron St. Cyr returns to Don't Tell Mama with another visit to 4600 Mithra: My New Orleans today, July 8th at 8pm. This swinging night of jazz was debuted in March, and he's back with his trio and some new and old standards that remind him of home. He will be joined by his musical director Drew Wutke; with direction by Jim Brigman once again.

The Encyclopedia of Newark Jazz, set for release in late May, is Barbara Kukla's sixth book about the people of Newark and its rich history. Her previous books include Swing City: Newark Nightlife, 1925-50, and America's Music: Jazz in Newark.

Shefik Wins 5 AVA Digital Awards for His Syndicated Radio Show

AVA Digital Awards announced winners for the 2017 international awards competition. There were about 2,500 entries from throughout the United States, Canada, and 16 other countries. Media personality Shefik, a native of New York, has won a total of five awards in the competition for his nationally-syndicated terrestrial radio show, 'Shefik presents Invocation'.

INNER CITY Reunion Concert Announced for Feinstein's/54 Below

FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW will be hosting a Reunion Concert of the 1971 Broadway musical, INNER CITY. The original Broadway production, directed by Tom O'Horgan, featured music by Helen Miller and lyrics by Eve Merriam.  The show was based on Merriam's book "The Inner City Mother Goose," a collection of updated nursery rhymes reflecting life of the disenfranchised inhabitants of America's urban inner cities circa 1970. The production ran at Broadway's Barrymore Theater from December 1971 to March 1972. Featured cast member, Linda Hopkins, was awarded a 1972 Tony Award for her performance.
