Amid an electrifying evening of dance by the greatest talents of Broadway and film, the 2010 Fred & Adele Astaire Award winners were announced at the 28th annual awards ceremony at the Gerald W. Lynch at John Jay College. The Douglas Watt Lifetime Achievement Award named for the late esteemed critic and co-founder of the Awards was presented to the legendary director and choreographer Kenny Ortega by Grammy winner Roberta Flack. Host for the evening was Ben Vereen.
Twelve former SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE show favorites are set to return to summer's No. 1 series as All-Star Dance Partners. The music lineup at Lincoln Center Festival 09 includes US debuts by Algerian music icon Idir and Moroccan Chaabi singer Najat Aatabou; a double bill with Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara, and Issa Bagayogo; and a tribute to celebrated New Orleans songwriter Wardell Quezergue, featuring a roster of noted musical artists from that city's annual Ponderosa Stomp music festival.
Career Transition For Dancers and the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts, a division of Boys & Girls Harbor, Inc., present WINTER HEAT Latin Dance Party on Monday, March 9, at 7pm at the beautiful Rainbow Room 30 Rockefeller Plaza (49th St. entrance) 65th Floor NYC. This is the 5th joint benefit evening that will once again include dancing to the sounds of the 22-piece Harbor Latin Big Band and a performance by the Harbor Conservatory's Gestures Dance Ensemble, now celebrating their 20th Anniversary that will be choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin. The Dance Duo of Manuel Favilla and Karolina Paliwoda will also perform. There will also be Latin dance lessons.
