Early Music Vancouver Announces 2019/20 Season

Early Music Vancouver (EMV) celebrates 50 years of historically informed performance with the announcement of the 2019 Vancouver Bach Festival and 2019/20 Main Season. Dedicated to sharing period music using the instruments and performance traditions for which it was originally composed, EMV marks the anniversary with a season of renowned masterworks and illustrious guest artists. The expansive programming includes such diverse works as Benjamin Bagby's one-man musical telling of Beowulf; masterworks for choir and orchestra by Bach, Handel, and Purcell; early romantic creations by Chopin, Faure, and Schubert; 20th century solo piano pieces by Shostakovich; and world premieres challenging contemporary composers to write for Baroque and period instruments.

Tulsa Opera Announces 2019/2020 Season

General Director Ken McConnell and Artistic Director Tobias Picker today announced Tulsa Opera's 72nd season comprising classics such as Bizet's Carmen and Puccini's Madama Butterfly, and a new production of Mr. Picker's 1996 opera Emmeline, to be performed in Oklahoma for the first time, and led by Mr. Picker in his opera-conducting debut.

EMV Presents Bach Collegium In Transcendent Concert At Chan Centre

Early Music Vancouver presents Bach Collegium Japan (BCJ) - Bach, Handel, Vivaldi on December 9, 2018 at 3pm at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC. Widely recognized as one of the world's leading ensembles specializing in the works of J.S. Bach and his contemporaries, Bach Collegium Japan and acclaimed British soprano Joanne Lunn, led by music director Masaaki Suzuki perform a concert of music by J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, and Handel, as well as shorter works by Conti, Marcello, and Telemann.

Early Music Vancouver (EMV), in collaboration with the Vancouver Opera and the Pacific Baroque Orchestra (PBO), presents Russian White Nights - Opera Arias from 18th Century St. Petersburg at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts on Sunday May 6, 2018 at 3pm. Joined by Music Director Alexander Weimann and the PBO, soprano Karina Gauvin performs a unique programme of virtually unknown opera arias from 18th century St. Petersburg, a period when the ruling Czars and Empresses of Russia spent lavishly on transforming the City into a great modern European cultural capital.

EMV Commemorates Centenary Of WWI Cessation With WAR & PEACE

Early Music Vancouver presents War and Peace: The Tallis Scholars, on April 21, 2018 at 7:30pm at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC. Led by director Peter Phillips, the renowned vocal ensemble perform a programme commemorating the centenary of the end of the First World War. Their meticulously curated program draws from nearly 500 years of composition and ranges from the Renaissance works of Palestrina and Mouton, to contemporary compositions by Arvo Part and John Tavener. The pieces are combined into a complete but varied setting of the Catholic mass that manages to evoke both the glory and intensity of battle and the serene melancholy of senseless loss.

EMV presents Monteverdi's ORFEO History's First Operatic Masterpiece

Early Music Vancouver (EMV) presents the first unqualified masterpiece in operatic history, Monteverdi's Orfeo, on October 29, 2017 at 3pm at the Chan Centre for Performing Arts. Often described as a game changer in the history of music, the work marks the end of the Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque. This classic myth of love and loss will come to life under GRAMMY award-winner and Monteverdi specialist, Stephen Stubbs, leading the singers and musicians of Seattle's Pacific MusicWorks. This production will star Vancouver's own internationally celebrated tenor Colin Balzer in the title role, and will also include San Francisco's Dark Horse Consort, North America's most respected 17th century wind ensemble.
