Photo Coverage: HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL Star Katie Ladner Joins the Fun at The Mississippi Picnic in Central Park

The 35th annual Mississippi Picnic, held yesterday in New York in Central Park, had something for everyone. Alexis Brown (Madison) is a former special assistant and events coordinator at the Mississippi Development Authority and state coordinator for the picnic since 1992 and she once again had a wonderful event planned out for New York City. Governor Phil Bryant and his wife Deborah were there to support the event.

First Center for the Visual Arts to Kick Off First Fridays Concert Series, 6/27

The Frist Center for the Visual Arts' popular summer concert series Frist Fridays kicks off Friday, June 27 with a performance by The Long Players. Now in its twelfth season, Frist Fridays take place on the final Friday of June, July and August from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Center's Turner Courtyard. Patrons are invited to enjoy an evening of live music, light snacks and beverages as well as the diverse exhibitions on view in the Frist Center's galleries. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to the events. Frist Fridays take place rain or shine.

Emerge Film Festival Comes to Life with Announcement of Final Film Schedule, Award Nominations and Sneak Peek Event

Things are heating up for the inaugural Emerge Film Festival, opening on June 13! The Festival board of directors has released the final film schedule, including more than 40 short, documentary and feature films from Maine, the U.S. and the world. Details for the two-day Lewiston/Auburn, Maine event are outlined on the newly developed website: emergefilmfestival.org.

First Center for the Visual Arts Announces Launch of Blue Star Museums, Today

Today, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts announced the launch of Blue Star Museums, a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to the nation's active duty military personnel including National Guard and Reserve and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2014. Leadership support has been provided by MetLife Foundation through Blue Star Families. The program provides families an opportunity to enjoy the nation's cultural heritage and learn more about their new communities after a military move. CMT to Premiere FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC: THE STORY OF NASHVILLE, 5/21

For more than 130 years, Nashville, Tenn., has earned its nickname, Music City. Now, Music City's story is told in its entirety when CMT hosts the cable premiere of the award-winning film FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC: THE STORY OF NASHVILLE on Wednesday, May 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, featuring previously unreleased interview footage of Keith Urban. The one-hour documentary tells the tale of Music City through the eyes of musicians, songwriters, producers and artists who live and breathe Nashville. This spring the Frist Center for the Visual Arts is proud to present American Ballads: The Photographs of Marty Stuart. The exhibition will be on display from today, May 9-November 2, 2014, in the Conte Community Arts Gallery, which is free to the public. Organized by Frist Center Curator Katie Delmez, American Ballads demonstrates that Stuart is a master storyteller not only through his songs, but also through his revealing photographs.

Marty Stuart to Play Omaha's Holland Performing Arts Center, 5/2

RFD-TV has announced Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives will perform July 11, 2014 at the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 2, 2014 and can be purchased through www.ticketomaha.com, by telephone at 402-345-0606 or in person at the box office, located at 13th and Douglas streets. The concert begins at 8 p.m.; tickets range from $40-$70 per person.

Annenberg Space for Photography Announces 'Country: Portraits of an American Sound', 5/31

The Annenberg Space for Photography today announced its next exhibition, Country: Portraits of an American Sound. This exhibit presents images of the pioneers, poets and icons of country music, and will be offered free to the public May31 through September 28, 2014. Guest curators for this exhibit are Shannon Perich of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, and Tim Davis and Michael McCall of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
