Underscore Theatre Company is pleased to present its 5th annual CHICAGO MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL, created to showcase and support the growing field of musical theatre creators from Chicago and beyond. This year's Festival features full productions of nine new musicals plus two free readings. The Festival will be performed simultaneously on two stages at The Edge Theater: the Broadway (5451 N. Broadway) and the new Off Broadway (1133 W. Catalpa Ave.) in Chicago Edgewater neighborhood. Each full production will receive at least five performances during the Festival. Single tickets and festival passes are currently available at www.cmtf.org. The press 'Sneak Preview,' featuring a sampling of songs from the 2019 Festival, is Monday, February 4 at 8 pm.

Directed by Elana Boulos, COMMUNION will play September 13 - 22, 2018 at The Den Theatre's Upstairs Main Stage, 1331 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago. Underscore Theatre and The Den Theatre are pleased to present an all-new staging of the Jeff Award-nominated Best New Musical HAYMARKET (formerly Haymarket: The Anarchist's Songbook) the true story of Chicago's infamous Haymarket massacre. With book, music and lyrics by Alex Higgin-Houser and David Kornfeld, the actors accompany themselves to the stirring folk-infused score. Having spent the last two years workshopping the show, the authors alongside director Nick Thornton and musical director Robert Ollis have crafted an all-new theatrical experience - creating new songs, overhauling the book, and like the union workers from the show, building on a strong foundation.

There is only one New York City! Outspoken, outrageous and over the top, NYC residents are the perfect subjects for urban drama. The Players Theatre Short Play and Musical Festival and Be Bold! Productions encourage playwrights to take these stories and put them on the stage in the NYC - themed festival each June. Celebrating its 8th year, "Only in New York" opened Thursday, June 7 and runs for three weeks. Each week five original short plays or musicals, by a variety of playwrights (including one high school student) will be presented with a "Best of the Week" production will being selected by audience vote.

The CHICAGO ONE-MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL (#1MPF) returns for its ninth year! The marathon evening of one-minute plays by 70 of Chicago's established and emerging playwrights and directors plays two nights only, Tuesday, June 26 and Wednesday, June 27 at 8 pm at The Den Theatre, 1331 N. Haven Theatre Company announces How We Got On to begin their fourth season, written by Idris Goodwin and directed by Jess McLeod, at the company's new home within the Den Theatre's new Bookspan Theatre, 1335 Milwaukee Ave., September 29 - November 12. Previews are Thursday, Sept. 29 - Saturday, Oct.1 at 8 p.m. Opening night is Sunday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. The regular performance schedule is Thursdays - Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Regular run tickets are $32, senior tickets are $20 and college/industry tickets are $15 (preview tickets are $12).
