Vassar & New York Stage and Film have announced the next wave of casting for the highly anticipated 34th Powerhouse Season in Poughkeepsie, NY, which starts this Friday, June 22 and runs through Sunday, July 29. Actors joining the annual summer play development incubator include Tony Award nominee Raul Esparza, Tony Award winner Alice Ripley, Tony Award nominee Denee Benton, Tony Award nominee Lauren Worsham, Tony Award nominee Alex Brightman, Noah Galvin, Frankie J. Alvarez, Lesli Margherita, Michael Esper, and Carson Elrod.
Now onstage at the Z. Alexander Looby Theatre as the concluding production of Circle Players' 2017-18 season, Disney's Beauty and the Beast is brought to life by an eager-to-please cast and crew, giving further proof to the universality of the story and the continued delight of audiences lucky enough to score tickets (Circle Players' production has been playing to near-capacity, often sold-out, audiences in its three-week run at the Looby).

Casting was announced today for THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA - Midsommer Flight's seventh summer of free Shakespeare performances as an Arts Partner in Chicago Park District parks. The company's Founding Artistic Director Beth Wolf, who will direct Shakespeare's comedy, made the announcement today. The Kitchen presents a multimedia project from Charles Atlas, continuing the institution's nearly 45-year relationship with the video art pioneer. In The Kitchen's gallery, two new video installations take a retrospective look at Atlas' work while offering a counterpoint to his interactive 2003 show Instant Fame! and its portraits of downtown figures (through May 12).

What better way to celebrate the day after Saint Pat's March 18 than to attend a concert starring Irish tenor Dennis McNeil? He's half Irish; so am I, and that's more than good enough, for at this time of the year everyone has a bit of the blarney in them. Once a month McNeil sings a concert at the Lounge of the Hermosa Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa. This month he titled his show I'll Have Another and, true to form, on the small table next to his chair was a tall glass of Guinness. At the end of the 90 minute set, the glass was empty. Dean Martin could never get away with that on national television, but on stage, when you're the only star, you can do anything you want, and if anything the Guinness gave McNeil that extra lift to deliver a gloriously tuneful performance. Backed by wonderful musician Ed Martel on electric keyboard, McNeil was aglow the instant he hit the stage and never let down.
