In a new production commissioned by the Finborough Theatre, the rediscovery of Tony Harrison's The Trackers of Oxyrhynchus in its first London production for nearly 30 years opens at the Finborough Theatre for a four week limited season.

Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, Has met with such a resounded response that the Long Beach Playhouse has extended the run for one weekend only. 

Temple Theaters presents The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade, commonly called Marat/Sade by Peter Weiss. Directed by Donna Snow, this twentieth-century masterpiece is a deep examination of human suffering and class struggle that still resonates today. With twenty-three graduate and undergraduate actors and a score of lively music, the drama will run November 9 - 19 in Temple University's intimate Randall Theater.

After its world premiere last June at Milan's Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato, the Center for Contemporary Opera presents the U.S. premiere of Love Hurts, by librettist L.S. Hilton - author of the best-selling novel Maestra - and composer Nicola Moro, at Symphony Space in New York City on October 28.

Part LES MISERABLES, part Quills, part Australia's backyard, Marat/Sade is a raucous and real-life inspection into the lives of the politically disenfranchised, told through the inmates of what was in Peter Weiss' 1960s original the asylum of Charenton, but in Barry French's direction, could be any detention centre dotting the Asia Pacific. A madcap meta-musical repurposing historic cruelty for the new age, Marat/Sade is a fantastic experience for audiences to get up close and personal with.

The Center for Contemporary Opera has announced its season of five operas, including two world premieres and three U.S. premieres, to take place this fall throughout New York City and Brooklyn.  

Some of the most important playwrights and performers in avant-garde theater present staged readings of new works in progress at the intimate, ultimate downtown theatrical event: Writers Block 2016 presented by Howl! Happening: An Arturo Vega Project to showcase the vision of contemporary writers, performers and artists, many of whom got their start in the nightclubs, seminal performance spaces, and theaters in the EV/LES.

The Long Beach Playhouse presents its latest production, The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat As Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis De Sade or Marat/Sade, which opens June 11 in the Studio Theatre. In keeping with a reputation for outside-the-box productions in the Studio theater, the audience will witness a play written in the style of the Theater of Cruelty.

The Studio at Long Beach Playhouse continues to push the envelope with a lineup of five disparate plays that all have something to say.

Author Jack Paraskovich takes the 'other,' rarely taken, view of history that the majority of Western civilization conveniently pays no heed to in the way of living a truly civilized life. 'The Wrong View of History' (published by Xlibris) is a history that re-introduces readers to the warts and all aspects of life during two seminal periods in history. It is a provocative analysis of life, predominantly in The Middle Ages and Renaissance periods. People would shy away from the less palatable aspects of their history. Paraskovich, by reminding his readers of this, teaches precisely how humanity has progressed through the specific centuries, giving an organic and truer vision of how things were during those technologically deprived eras.

New Theatre's 2016 Season line up continues the company's legacy of staging productions that will challenge ideas and discuss issues.

To share an electrifying and distinguished work from Italy with a larger audience, La MaMa E.T.C. will present Teatro Patologico (Pathological Theater) from Rome in 'MEDEA,' adapted and directed by Dario D'Ambrosi, tonight, October 8, to the 18th, 2015 in its Ellen Stewart Theater, 66 East 4th Street.

Songwriting team Matte O'Brien and Matt Vinson made their 54 Below debut on September 27th with 'There's Something There: The Music of Matt and Matte'. Top Broadway vocalists accompanied by a power ensemble and live folk-rock band made this a sonic experience not to be missed.
