BWW Review: John Kevin Jones' Captivating Performance of A CHRISTMAS CAROL Returns To Merchant's House Museum

Since its first publication in 1843, Charles Dickens' holiday classic, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, has been adapted countless times for various stages, screens and pages, but undoubtedly the most authentic presentations of the story of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge and the ghosts who assist in his transformation into a kind and generous soul were the numerous live readings the author gave during the last 18 years of his life.

BWW Review: A CHRISTMAS CAROL: A GHOST STORY OF CHRISTMAS at Iowa Stage: A New Production Takes to the Stage

Everyone loves a good ghost story. Usually, these stories have been reserved for around a campfire or Halloween. So why would someone tell a ghost story around the holidays? Iowa Stage is telling us this in their production, which opens today 'A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas.' While the tradition of 'A Christmas Carol' each year came from the Repertoire Theatre of Iowa, Iowa Stage is continuing the tradition. With the move to a new performance space this season, they have taken a chance on a new version of the story.

BWW Review: At J. Max Baker's ONE CHRISTMAS CAROL, One Man is All You Need

When a story is as woven in people's collective consciousness as A Christmas Carol is, how does one go about making their adaptation stand out amongst countless others? It turns out, all you have to do is be J. Max Baker. A one man retelling of A Christmas Carol is far from an easy feat, and Baker takes on all 34 characters with finesse, personality, humor, and skill.

BWW Review: A CHRISTMAS CAROL Brings the Magic of the Season to Sacramento Theatre Company

One of my favorite holiday traditions is going to the theatre to see shows that celebrate the magic of the season. For the past three years, I've been fortunate enough to experience that with the Sacramento Theatre Company (STC) and their unique production of A Christmas Carol. This adaptation was written over 30 years ago for STC by Richard Hellesen and David DeBerry and still delights with its festive music and timeless message from Charles Dickens.

Photo Flash: The Classical Theatre Of Harlem Presents A CHRISTMAS CAROL IN HARLEM

The Classical Theatre of Harlem presents the second year of its holiday production, A Christmas Carol in Harlem, based on the timeless work by Charles Dickens. This year's production is directed by Carl Cofield based on an adaptation by Shawn René Graham with new choreography by Tiffany Rea-Fisher (Artistic Director of Elisa Monte Dance). This season, the show moves into a three-quarter thrust theater, offering audiences a more intimate theater experience and allowing them to share in the spirit of the show. Cofield has re-imagined large portions of the work to fit this new space and to build on the festive themes throughout the play while allowing the drama of Scrooge's past to unfold. This includes a new set, music pieces, projections, costumes and casting that establishes A Christmas Carol in Harlemas a modern addition to New York City's annual holiday offerings.

Blue Ceiling Dance Premieres 8 MINUTES 17 SECONDS

Propelled by the curiosity between the length of time it takes light to travel from the sun to the earth (8:17), Blue Ceiling dance presents its most ambitious work to date. The company celebrates its 16th year with 8 minutes 17 minutes, on stage from January 23th to 25th, 2020, at 8:00pm at The Theatre Centre with a Pay-What-You-Can community matinée performance on Sunday, January 26th at 2:30pm. Conceived and co-choreographed by the company's Artistic Director Lucy Rupert, 8 minutes 17 seconds is a lyrical exploration of the science language inspired by the soul of cosmology and behaviour of light in space through contemporary dance. This is part of DanceWorks CoWorks' 2019/20 Series Event.

BWW Review: A CHRISTMAS CAROL At Fargo Moorhead Community Theatre

There are so many Christmas traditions I can think of that hold a special place in my heart. Decorating the tree, the first snow, the lights at Lindenwood Park, Home Alone, It's a Wonderful Life, Die Hard and of course the Charles Dickens Classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge. It's probably been 20 years since I have seen a stage production of this but I always try to find the classic movie to watch every year. I was beyond excited to see this show on the FMCT schedule and as usual they do not disappoint.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL Brings Holiday Spirit to Contemporary Theater Company

At its most fundamental, theater is a group of people coming together to tell a story in front of an audience. In its earliest days, that's all it was, basic and pure, without any need for today's technological lights and sounds (not that there's anything wrong with those). Contemporary Theater Company's production of A Christmas Carol similarly keeps it simple, bringing a group of players to the stage to let them work together to tell the audience a timeless yet still magical story.

BWW Review: A CHRISTMAS CAROL at Actors Theatre Of Louisville

God Bless us, everyone! My childhood came back to me while witnessing the holiday classic A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. This annual production by Actors Theatre of Louisville hit all the high notes on opening night and delivered a magical feast for the eyes, ears, and heart. After four decades this production still thrills and delivers the message of redemption and kindness from the past, present, and future. I was so happy to experience it among many families and I especially enjoyed hearing and seeing children's reactions to the show.

BWW Review: DOLLY PARTON'S SMOKY MOUNTAIN CHRISTMAS CAROL: Bah, Humbug!

DOLLY PARTON'S SMOKY MOUNTAIN CHRISTMAS CAROL delivers on the simplicity of its message of faith, family, and love, especially during the holiday season, and is a reflection of the heritage and values of its namesake. On opening night, the acclaimed country singer-songwriter surprised and delighted the audience by making an appearance onstage before the show, but the main event couldn't compete with Dolly's star wattage.
