There will be a benefit concert at the Laurie Beechman Theater At West Bank Cafe to honor Fulton Opera House's late artistic director, Michael Mitchell. Mitchell passed away in September of 2008. The event will be held on January 25 at 7pm. Tony nominee Jonathan Groff will be among the performers, the cast will also include Rachel Coloff, Jenna Coker-Jones, Christopher Kale Jones, Lyndy Franklin, Gregg Goodbrod, Matt Gibson, Michael McGuirk, Matt Simpkins, Tara Bruno, Jessica Kademenos, Mark Fisher, Steph Wilberding, Julia Osborne, Chris York, Harold Barnard, Nathaniel Shaw, Chris Crowthers, Eric Neher, Eric Ulloa, Michael Strassheim, Nicky Venditti, Gavin Waters, Scott Sussman, Stephanie Lynne-Mason, and Danny Gardner. Several alumni from productions that Mitchell directed for the Fulton will perform. Proceeds benefit the Michael Mitchell Endowment, supporting his legacy of theater produced at the Fulton.

Twenty-one St. Louis theater companies are represented in the nominations for the fourth annual Kevin Kline Awards. Forty-two plays and musicals produced in the St. Louis area during 2008 now share 113 nominations in 22 different categories for the coveted award. The nominations were announced on KWMU-FM's 'Cityscape' today, January 16th, 2009. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis received the most nominations, 32, divided among seven different productions that were presented on its mainstage, and in both the Studio and Off-Ramp series. The Muny was the second-highest recipient, with 15 nominations. Stages St. Louis was the third theater to receive double-digit nominations, with 13. The satirical comedy The Little Dog Laughed, which was produced by the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis as part of its Off-Ramp series, received the most nominations (8), followed by seven nominations for My Fair Lady at the Muny. Eighty-two actors, directors, choreographers, playwrights and designers received nominations. Six artists received multiple nominations.

The Carol Tambor Theatrical Foundation and Performance Space 122 have announced the US premiere of the critically-acclaimed production of EIGHT, written and directed by Ella Hickson, as part of Performance Space 122's COIL Festival. EIGHT begins performances on Tuesday, January 6 for a limited engagement through Sunday, January 25 at Performance Space 122 (150 First Avenue, at East 9th Street).

According to BBC News Online, Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed that a sequel to We Will Rock You- the rock musical based on Queen's songs- is in the works. While speaking at a formal ceremony to install him as the Chancellor of John Moores University May said, 'We are planning a sequel. It's a real challenge.'
