London theatre is celebrating following the triumphant West End LIVE 2017, which saw hundreds of thousands flock to Trafalgar Square, a testament to the enduring appeal and resilience of theatre. Now in its 13th year, the event has grown to become one of Europe's largest free performing arts festivals. The event is organised by Westminster City Council and the Society of London Theatre with support from the Mayor of London.

Having premiered on Broadway in 2005, The Color Purple was first seen on the London stage back in 2013 at the Menier Chocolate Factory. The production, directed by John Doyle, subsequently transferred to Broadway, launching British actress Cynthia Erivo to international stardom.

THE COLOR PURPLE played in concert at the Cadogan Hall last night, directed and produced by Danielle Tarento, and co-produced by Matthew Chandler for the British Theatre Academy. BroadwayWorld has photos from the evening below!

An all-star West End cast is taking part in a one night only concert version of The Color Purple at London's Cadogan Hall this Sunday, 21 May.

On Monday, April 17th, 2017 42 Seven Productions, the producers of the hit BROADWAY AT W concert series, takes on the West End with the stars and cast members of Motown the Musical launching WEST END UNPLUGGED AT W.

Following celebrated wins at the 2017 Olivier Awards this week: Best Actress in a Musical for Amber Riley (Effie White); and Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for Adam J Bernard (Jimmy Early), Sonia Friedman Productions is delighted to confirm that the highly anticipated Dreamgirls Original London Cast Recording will be released by Sony Masterworks Broadway on Friday 12 May 2017 via Amazon, iTunes, and all usual channels.

When scheduling an interview with Broadway and now West End star: Marisha Wallace, I was quickly reminded that London is five hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time, so when we found an appointment that was congruently free; it was a little early for me... Flash forward to a 7am interview that started my day on the highest of notes: Marisha's bubbly and down to earth personality drew me in the first moment I saw her perform in the hit musical 'Something Rotten!'

This weekend's big news: BLUEPRINT SPECIALS, with Laura Osnes & Will Swenson, begins tonight at the Intrepid, and THE PRESENT, starring Cate Blanchett & Richard Roxburgh, opens on Broadway this Sunday!

As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, producers of the West End revival of Dreamgirls announced that Amber Riley, who has missed the last several performances of the show, has been diagnosed with pneumonia.

By all accounts, 2016 has been quite the rollercoaster ride. Fortunately for DFW audiences, the local theatre community and many of the touring productions delivered nothing short of a stellar year, setting quite a high bar for upcoming performances. As we say goodbye to another December, we'd like to look back on a handful of memories that stood out among the long list of Playbills we've gathered. And like raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, these live theatre moments will be remembered as a few of our favorite things. We present this list in no particular order, and without awards or titles bestowed upon those listed. To everyone who contributed to the DFW theatre community in 2016, we thank you for sharing your time and talents with us.
