Film Society of Lincoln Center Announce Spring 2018 Releases

The Film Society of Lincoln Center has announced its lineup of new releases for the 2018 spring season, featuring Arnaud Desplechin's Ismael's Ghosts, Lucrecia Martel's Zama, Claire Denis's Let the Sunshine In, and an exclusive run of Hong Sang-soo's The Day After, all NYFF55 selections; plus Sophie Fiennes's intimate documentary Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami and Carla Simón's Summer 1993, winner of the Best First Feature Award at the 2017 Berlin International Film Festival. Additionally, Desplechin, Martel, and Grace Jones will appear at the Film Society in person. Please see below for the complete list of films with run dates and synopses.

Casting Announced for Queens Theatre's JIMMY AND CAROLYN

Queens Theatre has announced casting for the world premiere production of JIMMY AND CAROLYN, written by James Andrew Walsh and directed by Brooke Ciardelli. The cast features Brad Bradley (James), Lisa Harrow (Carolyn), Luis Carlos de La Lombana (William), and Sam Tsoutsouvas (Jimmy).

Boston's Odyssey Opera Announces 2017-18 Fifth Anniversary Season

Following Odyssey Opera's 2016-17 season dedicated to works inspired by the writings of Oscar Wilde, Artistic and General Director Gil Rose today announced the company's 2017-18 season: Trial by Fire: Joan of Arc and the Hundred Years War, featuring operatic masterpieces that tell the story of martyr, saint, and military leader Joan of Arc (1412-1431). Representing a wide range of styles, Odyssey Opera presents five operas that interpret the mysterious medieval world Joan inhabited. Opening the season is Tchaikovsky's The Maid of Orleans followed by L'assedio di Calais by Gaetano Donizetti, The Trial at Rouen by Norman Dello Joio, Jeanne d'Arc au Bucher by Arthur Honegger, and Giovanna d'Arco by Giuseppe Verdi.

Alan Gilbert Winds Down His Final Weeks With the NY Phil in Wagner's DAS RHEINGOLD Concert, 6/1

In the third of Alan Gilbert's final four subscription weeks as New York Philharmonic Music Director, he will lead an enhanced concert production of Wagner's Das Rheingold. Soloists include bass-baritone Eric Owens as Wotan, mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton as Fricka (in her New York Philharmonic debut), baritone Christopher Purves as Alberich (debut), tenor Russell Thomas as Loge, mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor as Erda, bass Morris Robinson as Fasolt (debut), bass Stephen Milling as Fafner (debut), soprano Rachel Willis-Sorensen as Freia (debut), tenor Brian Jagde as Froh (debut), bass-baritone Christian Van Horn as Donner (debut), tenor Peter Bronder as Mime (debut), soprano Jennifer Zetlan as Woglinde, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano as Wellgunde, and mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford as Flosshilde. The enhanced concert production will be directed by Louisa Muller with costume design - featuring character-based treatment of modern concert attire - by David C. Woolard. The performances will take place Thursday, June 1, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 3 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Alan Gilbert To Lead 26th Free Memorial Day Concert, 5/29

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in Mahler's Symphony No. 4, with soprano Ying Fang as soloist, at the Annual Free Memorial Day Concert, Monday, May 29, 2017, at 8:00 p.m. at The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. This will be the 26th Annual Free Memorial Day Concert offered by the New York Philharmonic, a tradition begun in 1992 as a gift to the people of New York City.
