Michelle Miller Burns Appointed Minnesota Orchestra President And CEO

Minnesota Orchestra Board Chair Marilyn Carlson Nelson today announced the appointment of Michelle Miller Burns as the Orchestra's new President and CEO, effective September 1. Currently the Dallas Symphony Orchestra's Executive Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Burns has previously served as Interim President and CEO of the Dallas Symphony and held senior fundraising roles with the Newberry Library and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She succeeds President and CEO Kevin Smith, who will retire on August 31. Ms. Burns' initial contract is for five years.

DAC Stage, in Collaboration with The Lipstick Project, Presents the First-Ever All-Female Production Of CABARET

DAC Stage, in collaboration with The Lipstick Project, is producing the first ever all-female cast of Kander and Ebb's musical, Cabaret. The show will open on April 27th and run three weekends at the DAC's Weatherstone Studio. For this special production, Darien Arts Center Stage, the DAC's community theatre group, has augmented their pool of talent with that of The Lipstick Project, an all-female theatre group from Darien and surrounding towns, with a mission of empowering women through artistic opportunity and expression.

Mercury Theatre Colchester and TBO Productions present the world premiere of their brand-new musical - Pieces of String, with book, music and lyrics by Gus Gowland. Ryan McBryde directs Carol Starks (Jane), Andy Coxon (Ed), Marilyn Cutts (Rose), Ella Dunlop (Gemma), Lauren Hall (Anna), Joel Harper-Jackson (Tom), Craig Mather (Edward) and Gary Wood (Harry). Open auditions were held in Colchester to cast Young Rose, and the part will be alternated by three young people local to the theatre. Pieces of String, designed by 2017 Linbury Prize Finalist Fin Redshaw, opens on 27 April at the Mercury, with previews from 20 April and runs until 5 May.

Great Music at St. Bart's Presents MORTON FELDMAN'S PATTERNS IN A CHROMATIC FIELD

Patterns in a Chromatic Field is a late work (1981) by Morton Feldman (1926-1987), an 80-minute odyssey for cello and piano exploring different degrees of stasis and patterns of harmony and color. Patterns in a Chromatic Field reflects Feldman's lifelong fascination with the Abstract Expressionist painters: “My compositions are not really 'compositions' at all,” Feldman said. “One might call them time canvasses in which I more or less prime the canvas with an overall hue of music.”
