BWW Album Review: Kate Rockwell Embraces Her Roots

Kate Rockwell has made a career out of the peppy, poppy musicals that have been the hallmark of the past decade of Broadway, most recently as the hilarious ditzy Karen Smith in Mean Girls. But on her debut album, Back To My Roots, she steps away from these characters, instead compiling together the songs she dreamed of performing as a young aspiring actress. The result is a delightfully unexpected combination of comic patter, diva belting, and beautiful ballads that highlight Rockwell's talent and range.

BWW Review: THE BARBER OF SEVILLE at Lyric Opera Of Kansas City

Lyric Opera's production of 'The Barber of Seville' or 'The Useless Precaution' by Rossini opened Saturday evening at the Kauffman Center in the first of four performances. As is usual for the Lyric, this 'Barber' is slyly updated from the original 1816 version first performed in Rome.

Keegan Theatre Announces 2018-19 Season

The Keegan Theatre is proud to announce its 2018-2019 season, a ten-show lineup that includes three musicals, two regional premieres, two DC-area premieres, and two Keegan PLAY-RAH-KA productions for families.  "Heading into our 22nd season, Keegan is as vibrant and busy as we've ever been," says Producing Artistic Director Mark A. JCCC Carlsen Center Presents Series Announces 2018-19 Season

Emily Behrmann, General Manager for the Carlsen Center Presents Series, today announced the 2018-2019 season which features iconic women artists including Emmylou Harris, Chita Rivera, Aida Cuevas, Lisa Loeb and Marilyn Maye, scheduled to appear throughout the season. Copeland Continues: Additional THE WAITING PERIOD Performances

The Marsh San Francisco adds six free performances of Brian Copeland's The Waiting Period, due to ongoing support from a GoFundMe campaign. This deeply moving and surprisingly funny work outlines Copeland's own struggles with depression and suicidal thought, and is presented at no cost to remove all barriers for those who may be struggling with depression themselves. Featuring humorous, poignant, and riveting insights, the solo show written by Copeland and directed by David Ford, will take place 2pm Sundays May 6 - July 29, 2018 (see exact schedule below), at The Marsh San Francisco, 1062 Valencia Street. General admission for this performance is free, although reservations ($55-$100), are recommended. DAC Stage, in Collaboration with The Lipstick Project, Presents the First-Ever All-Female Production Of CABARET

DAC Stage, in collaboration with The Lipstick Project, is producing the first ever all-female cast of Kander and Ebb's musical, Cabaret. The show will open on April 27th and run three weekends at the DAC's Weatherstone Studio. For this special production, Darien Arts Center Stage, the DAC's community theatre group, has augmented their pool of talent with that of The Lipstick Project, an all-female theatre group from Darien and surrounding towns, with a mission of empowering women through artistic opportunity and expression.

This weekend Goldenstein Gallery brings continues acclaimed Artists Coffee Talk series, by hosting two artists whose work is the living embodiment of spirituality and intention: painter and sculptor Sherab Khandro and painter Marilyn Bos. SeriesFest Announces STORYTELLERS INITIATIVE Finalists

SeriesFest, the not-for-profit organization dedicated to showcasing the best and boldest emerging voices in television, in partnership with Elysium Bandini Studios and Parallel Entertainment, personal management company, today announced the three finalists of this year's “Storyteller Initiative,” a program created to discover original comedy writers. They are: Juiciful, written by Courtney Bush, Jake Goicoechea and Will Carrington; Volunteered, written by Paige VanTassell; and Coupled, written by Janet Silverman.

Staten Island Museum Marks A New Era At 2018 Gala

The Staten Island Museum hold its annual fundraiser on May 18, celebrating a new era in leadership and honorees that epitomize commitment to community. The honorees are Ralph Branca, Staten Island Museum's immediate past Board Chairman and CEO of Victory State Bank; historian, educator, and professional genealogist Debbie-Ann Paige; and Jee Ra, principal of the Korean School of Staten Island and program director of the Korean Community Development Center. Gala co-chairs are Kashif Pervez and Oswaldo Pena. This year's annual gala is the first under the leadership of recently appointed President and CEO Janice Monger, who began her tenure in September 2017.

LaToya Ruby Frazier's Flag Speaks For Justice In Flint, Michigan

Today, Creative Time raises artist LaToya Ruby Frazier's Pledges of Allegiance flag, Flint, 1,462 days and counting man-made water crisis. The flag, which references the number of days Flint, MI residents have been without water, will be on view at sixteen cultural institutions and universities across sixteen states: Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Texas.

Soprano Nadine Sierra Wins the 2018 Beverly Sills Artist Award

Soprano Nadine Sierra has been named the winner of the 13th annual Beverly Sills Artist Award for young singers at the Metropolitan Opera. The $50,000 award, the largest of its kind in the United States, is given to extraordinarily gifted singers between the ages of 25 and 40 who have already appeared in featured solo roles at the Met. The award, given in honor of Beverly Sills, was established in 2006 by an endowment gift from the late Agnes Varis, a managing director on the Met board. In 2009 Sierra became the youngest ever winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and has gone on to make her mark at the Met with memorable performances in Verdi's Rigoletto, and Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Idomeneo and Don Giovanni. In the Met's 2018-19 season, Sierra will reprise the role of Gilda in Rigoletto.
