Just about the most spectacular opera event of the season so far arrived at Carnegie Hall Sunday afternoon, with the English Concert and Harry Bicket making their annual foray into Handel territory, with a superb RINALDO.
On Tuesday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall, acclaimed American tenor Lawrence Brownlee presents the New York premiere of Cycles of My Being, a new song cycle composed by Tyshawn Sorey with lyrics by Terrance Hayes that explores the realities of life as a black man in America. Brownlee—hailed as one of “the world's leading bel canto tenors” by the Associated Press—is conducted by composer Tyshawn Sorey and joined by violinist Randall Goosby, cellist Khari Joyner, clarinetist Alexander Laing, and pianist Kevin Miller for Cycles of My Being, which is co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall as part of the Hall's 125 Commissions Project. The program opens with Schumann's Dichterliebe, to be performed alongside pianist Myra Huang.

The nonprofit paid tribute to eight New Yorkers who, in their ninth and tenth decades, continue to live lives of remarkable achievement, vitality, and civic engagement. The event raised $1.1 million to support The New Jewish Home, one of the nation's largest and most diversified nonprofit older adult health care systems, providing rehabilitation, skilled nursing and health care programs, which serves 12,000 older adults of all faiths and ethnicities annually.

De Shields received the Bistro Awards' highest honor for his five decades of stage and nightclub accomplishments.
NYU Skirball will present U.S. premieres of two acclaimed international theater productions that confront today's political and social unrest: War and Peace, from Germany's Gob Squad theater company, is an immersive theater/video adaptation of Tolstoy's masterwork, running March 29 - 31; and The Dictatorship of Coolness, a raucous social satire reflecting on art, culture and greed, presented by Chile's Teatro La Re-Sentida, running April 6 and 7.

1812 Productions will close its 21st season with the Philadelphia Premiere of Michael Hollinger's Hope and Gravity. After a 20-year personal and professional friendship, Producing Artistic Director Jennifer Childs will direct Hollinger's work, his first-ever production with 1812. Broadway In Boston, Boston's mainstage for Broadway, has unveiled the upcoming 2018-2019 Lexus Broadway Season during its annual spring announcement event at the Boston Opera House. Eleven theatrical productions will take center stage at the Boston Opera House and the Emerson Colonial Theatre. Over 1500 people from around the city gathered for the annual celebration including Broadway In Boston's Season ticket holders, group leaders, arts and business leaders, city officials, partners from around the city, sponsors and the Boston media.
