This past week I saw two different musicals that have taken their inspiration from classic Jane Austen novels and, while completely different in size and scale, both have considerable merits. The first is in San Diego where Paul Gordon's to-die-for new musical SENSE AND SENSIBILITY is gracing the stage at The Old Globe.

SENSE AND SENSABILITY brings the charming wit or Asutin to The Old Globe stage thorugh August 14th.

The Old Globe presents the West Coast premiere of Paul Gordon's delightfully romantic new musical SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, developed with Rick Boynton and presented in association with Chicago Shakespeare Theater, where it was commissioned and had its world premiere in April 2015. CST Artistic Director Barbara Gaines returns to the show as director of the Globe production. SENSE AND SENSIBILITY will play now through August 14, 2016 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Sense and Sensibility is the journey of two sisters discovering the balance between rationalism and romanticism while finding their way to personal power and a real understanding of what love truly means. Jane Austen's romantic comedy adapted for the stage by Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan (Pride and Prejudice) plays in the Marian Theatre July 21 - 30, then transfers to the Solvang Festival Theater and runs from August 5 - 21.

?Connecticut Repertory Theatre will present Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility by adapted for the stage by Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan as the fourth show of its 2015-2016 season. The show is directed by Kristin Wold, a faculty member at UConn and member of Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, MA.  Sense and Sensibility will be held in the Harriet S.
