CRT to Present Jane Austen's SENSE AND SENSIBILITY

By: Feb. 03, 2016
Connecticut Repertory Theatre will present Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility by adapted for the stage by Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan as the fourth show of its 2015-2016 season. The show is directed by Kristin Wold, a faculty member at UConn and member of Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, MA. Sense and Sensibility will be held in the Harriet S. Jorgenson Theatre from February 25 through March 6, 2016. For tickets and information please visit crt.uconn.edu or call (860) 486 2113.

Full of passion, wit, and soaring emotions, this new adaptation of Jane Austen's first published novel is co-written by Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan, the writing team behind CRT's extraordinarily popular Pride & Prejudice. Following their father's untimely death, the penniless Dashwood sisters pursue life and love in their own distinctive ways. Elinor is smart and down-to-earth. Marianne is wildly romantic. They each attract suitors whose startling secrets obstruct the path to happily ever after.

Elinor Dashwood will be played by second year MFA Acting candidate Arlene Bozich, most recently seen in CRT's Twelfth Night as Mariah. BFA Acting senior Susannah Resnikoff will play Marianne Dashwood. The cast features special guest artists Cynthia Darlow as Mrs. Jennings and Don Noble as Sir John Middleton/Henry Dashwood. Darlow is a founding member of American Repertory Theatre with Broadway roles in Billy Elliot, Accent on Youth, Rabbit Hole, Prelude to a Kiss, among others. Noble is a Broadway veteran whose credits include Once and The End of the Rainbow and the National Tour of Mamma Mia!.

Director Kristin Wold said, "Joe Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan's adaptation is a lively, passionate romp into the hearts and minds of Austen's characters. In rehearsal, we are exploring what it is to speak from your heart, to follow your desires and impulses unchecked; and also what it is to think before you act, to be wise and consider what may come from speaking your truth. It is exciting to be telling a story that takes a stand for love. I find it fun, dangerous and full of joy!

Artistic Director Vincent J. Cardinal observes, "Sense and Sensibility gives CRT the opportunity to do what it does best with lavish period costumes by MFA designer Raven Ong and a theatrically elegant set by faculty member Tim Brown whose stage design was most recently seen in rapper J. Cole's international tour and HBO special.
