Allegiance - A New American Musical has been eyeing a Broadway run since it premiered at San Diego's Old Globe last fall. Since then, a New York City reading was held, led by Lea Salonga, George Takei and Telly Leung, all of whom starred in the San Diego production, as well as in a recent backers screening in Austin. Takei just announced that the cast will be taking part in a 'Talks at Google' event which will be broadcast live tomorrow. He writes:

The Flea Theater has announced the extension of the World Premiere of THE MYSTERIES - a radical retelling of the Bible. The main characters in the new musical version of "A Room with a View" spend their time trying to figure out who they want to become. Unfortunately the show itself also has an identity crisis, as it could never figure out what kind of show it wanted to be. And that, combined with songs that rarely got off the ground and never moved the story along, left the show a muddled mess being sung by some powerhouse talents who deserve better.

The Broadway-aimed musical Allegiance, currently starring George Takei, Lea Salonga, and Telly Leung, has created a Priority Access Pass to give more theatregoers a chance to see the production. The show premiered at San Diego's The Old Globe in September 2012 and quickly sold out, leaving many fans without a chance to see the show at all. A fan who purchases a Priority Access Pass for $5.00 is guaranteed a reserved and numbered spot on a list of theatregoers who get first shot at purchasing tickets when they go on sale - ahead of the general public.
A total of 46 established and emerging writers, composers and lyricists will converge on the Goodspeed campus in East Haddam, CT this month to participate in the Johnny Mercer Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. A production source told BroadwayWorld that ALLEGIANCE is aiming for Broadway, possibly in the spring of 2014, but there are numerous variables including star schedules and theatre availability that need to line up, so there is yet no official plan.
Casting has been announced for The Hub Theatre's Fall production of David Yee's, carried away on the crest of a wave. The ensemble includes Nora Achrati, Ed Christian, Hedy Hosford, Andrew Ferlo, Rafael Sebastian Medina, and Ryan Sellers. All who will be called on to play multiple roles.
On Tuesday, September 3rd, a very selected audience of lucky Austinites were invited to a special invitation-only screening of a developmental production of the Broadway-bound musical, Allegiance, hoping to raise funds and support to further bring the show to the Broadway stage. I was lucky enough to attend, and while it may be unconventional for a theater critic to review or even comment on a piece they technically did not see live (what was shown in Austin was a professionally filmed version of the world premiere production of Allegiance at the Old Globe in San Diego, CA) the show is too good to ignore.
