Her career includes highlights from on stage, including 'The Importance of Being Earnest,' 'Private Lives,' and 'Lettice and Lovage;' to in films as 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie,' 'Sister Act,' and 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel;' to her iconic role as Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham on 'Downton Abbey,' for which she is nominated for an Emmy for the fourth-consecutive year.

Academy Award winner, singer, dancer, writer and activist Shirley MacLaine makes her Segerstrom Center for the Arts debut in her remarkable one-woman show, sharing personal stories, photos and film clips from her illustrious Hollywood career and fascinating personal life on Saturday, September 20 at 8 p.m. in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.

In a lovely bit of symmetry, the Guthrie is closing a season that began with Chekhov's Uncle Vanya with a new play by Christopher Durang that uses Chekhovian characters and themes in a decidedly modern way - Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Whatever Durang's inspiration was, the result is a hilarious comedy about a dysfunctional trio of siblings and the wacky people that surround them. Even though I'm sure I missed many of the Chekhov and other references, I thoroughly enjoyed the play. It's great fun, with fantastic performances by everyone in the six-person cast.

There is no other theatre that is more perfect for a production of VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE than Bucks County Playhouse. This show takes place in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, which is also where the playwright Christopher Durang lives. So not only does this show entertain audiences, but it is easy for the audience to visualize the setting that Durang envisioned because they are sitting in the midst of Bucks County. VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE is a smart play, as well as has a cast that is charming.
