Seven outstanding vocalists, songwriters, and musicians born in 1915 will be honored at Weill Recital Hall on Tuesday, June 9th, at 7:30 p.m., when The Mabel Mercer Foundation presents the annual concert, "It Was A Very Good Year." Cohosted by the Foundation's artistic director KT Sullivan and the distinguished critic Rex Reed, the one-night-only event celebrates the centennial birthdays of (alphabetically) Alice Faye, Billie Holiday, Bart Howard, Edith Piaf, Frank Sinatra, Billy Strayhorn, and Cy Walter.

Urban Stages' Board of Directors and founding artistic director Frances Hill will hold their annual benefit at the Boathouse in Central Park at 6:30PM on May 18th. This event will honor philanthropist Henry Buhl for his contributions to Urban Stages and the New York Community as the Founder of the Association of Community Employment for the Homeless (ACE). Brilliant singer and actress, KT Sullivan will receive the first Musical Theatre Award for her work with Urban Stages and as director of the Mabel Mercer Foundation which produces the New York Cabaret Convention.

KAREN WYMAN - the celebrated pop/jazz vocalist currently celebrating a renaissance since her days performing on 'The Ed Sullivan Show' and 'The Dean Martin Show' - will debut at Iridium Jazz Club on Tuesday, May 26 at 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM. Her most recent New York engagement was named a 'Critic's Pick' by Time Out New York and called 'a compelling concert and a totally-inspiring comeback performance' by BroadwayWorld.com. The evening of music at the Iridium will feature timeless pop standards by Cole Porter, Jule Styne and Harold Arlen, in addition to 1960's classics from The Beatles and Burt Bacharach, her Billboard-charting hit 'Why Can't I Walk Away?' and songs from emerging New York composers. Music director John Oddo (Rosemary Clooney, Michael Feinstein, Debby Boone) will lead an all-star trio.

Singer and actress Julie Wilson, arguably one of the greatest cabaret chanteuses to grace a stage, died early this morning at the age of 90, according to her long time accompanist and friend Christopher Denny, who posted the news on his Facebook page. As of 8:45 this morning, the news of Wilson's death had not yet broken through major news outlets. Denny reported that Wilson 'died peacefully, surrounded by people who loved her, after having sustained two strokes over the last several days.' Up until the past couple of months of her life, the energetic Wilson was still being seen at various cabaret shows around town and supporting the new breed of stars, recently having the time of her life at a Mark Nadler show at the York Theatre.

ScoBar recently presented New York singer Joyce Breach at the Times Square located nightclub the Iridium. Joyce is the 2000 winner of a MAC Award for Best Jazz Performer and winner of the 1998 Bistro Award for Best CD. Joyce also received the Mabel Mercer Foundation's Cabaret Classic Award. Broadwayworld was at her recent show that featured Mike Renzi on piano and Jay Leonhart, bass.
