Karen Wyman Coming to Iridium Jazz Club, 5/26
KAREN WYMAN - the celebrated pop/jazz vocalist currently celebrating a renaissance since her days performing on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Dean Martin Show" - will debut at Iridium Jazz Club on Tuesday, May 26 at 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM. Her most recent New York engagement was named a "Critic's Pick" by Time Out New York and called "a compelling concert and a totally-inspiring comeback performance" by BroadwayWorld.com. The evening of music at the Iridium will feature timeless pop standards by Cole Porter, Jule Styne and Harold Arlen, in addition to 1960's classics from The Beatles and Burt Bacharach, her Billboard-charting hit "Why Can't I Walk Away?" and songs from emerging New York composers. Music director John Oddo (Rosemary Clooney, Michael Feinstein, Debby Boone) will lead an all-star trio.
Wyman will also appear in a staged reading of the new play with music Love, Sex & Menopause by Phyliss J. Esposito at the Davenport Theater (354 West 45th Street) on May 7, 13, 21 and 28 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $18 to $22 and are available at BrownPaperTickets.com.
KAREN WYMAN became a national vocal sensation at the age of 16 in 1969, recording for Decca Records. The Bronx native sang on "The Dean Martin Show," "The Ed Sullivan Show," "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson," and on variety programs hosted by Carol Burnett, Glen Campbell, Dick Cavett, David Frost, Merv Griffin and Mike Douglas. She performed in nightclubs and concert stages throughout the county for years and released albums and singles on MCA and Columbia Records, several arranged by Peter Matz.
Since her successful return to the stage after taking time to raise her family, she has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center for the Mabel Mercer Foundation, "Wall to Wall Cabaret" at Symphony Space and concert venues like Birdland and 54 Below.
