The Latino Theater Company will rename one of five theaters at downtown's Los Angeles Theatre Center complex in honor of award-winning Mexican American actress and community activist Lupe Ontiveros, who was a founding member of the company.

Latino Theater Company's 10th annual Gala - The Latino Theater Company celebrates 30 years of success with a fundraising "Dia de los Muertos" gala event featuring a cocktail reception, silent auction and gourmet dinner. Honoring public figures who have dedicated their careers and lives to servicing the arts in Los Angeles, LTC's Marco Antonio Firebaugh Legacy Award will be presented to Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de Leon; retired partner of Latham & Watkins Donald P. Baker; Executive Vice President of Sony Pictures Entertainment John Naveira; and General Manager of Goya California Robert A. Unanue. The company's Lupe Ontiveros Dream Award will go to Associate Artistic Director of Center Theatre Group Diane Rodriguez. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Latino Theater Company's productions as well as outreach programs that contribute arts education and cultural enrichment to our city.

The film of Josefina Lopez's Real Women Have Curves in 2002 was a big hit in art houses and won several Sundance prizes including an audience award for Best Actresses Lupe Ontiveros and America Ferrera, long before her Ugly Betty fame. Lopez's semi-autobiographical play from the 90s about the garment industry and the Latina women who struggle to survive in it - the basis for the film - is currently running at the Pasadena Playhouse through October 4 and has terrific direction from Seema Sueko and a closely connected ensemble of five actresses.

The Marquis Theatre Box Office (46th Street between Broadway & 8th Avenue) officially opens today, Monday, August 17 for ON YOUR FEET!, the new Broadway musical based on the life story of seven-time GRAMMY winning international superstar Gloria Estefan and her husband, nineteen-time GRAMMY winning producer-musician-entrepreneur Emilio Estefan. ON YOUR FEET! opens on Broadway on Thursday, November 5, 2015, following preview performances beginning Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Marquis Theatre.  The musical, directed by two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Hairspray) and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis) with an original book by Academy Award winner Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman, The Bodyguard Musical), lands on Broadway following a world premiere summer engagement at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago.

Josefina López, the award-winning playwright and co-screenwriter of Real Women Have Curves and Founding Artistic Director of CASA 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights, CA will receive an Honorary Doctorate Degree in the Arts from her Alma Mater, Columbia College Chicago on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., at which time López will deliver a Commencement Address to the Class of 2015. López graduate with a B.A. degree in Liberal Arts from Columbia College Chicago in 1993.

As part of Aurora Theatre's annual Teatro del Sol, a Spanish language theatre initiative with a goal of the preservation of Hispanic cultural heritage, Real Women Have Curves plays tonight, April 10-26, 2015. Based on playwright Josefina Lopez's own young adult experiences, this widely recognized portrayal of immigration and its impact on women and their families has sparked a greater conversation and call to action for young immigrants struggling to defy the odds and achieve the American dream.

The graduation will feature many LACHSA performing arts groups and is open to the general public to attend.

Attending the 13th Annual Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA) Awards presented by Delta Air Lines tonight, October 8, 2012 will be SAG-AFTRA elected leadership reps that include national SAG-AFTRA Co- President, Roberta Reardon and national SAG-AFTRA Co-Treasurer and Co-Secretary, Amy Aquino. Also joining the celebration will be Tony Plana, Tony Shalhoub, Brooke Adams and CNN's Jane Vélez-Mitchell.
