Currently in previews, Center Theatre Group's 'Zoot Suit' opens February 12 at the Mark Taper Forum. This legendary play with music will continue through March 19, 2017, (extending one week from the originally announced closing date). Written and directed by Luis Valdez, 'Zoot Suit' is presented in association with El Teatro Campesino. 

Playwright/composer/lyricist Eric B. Sirota, who also happens to be a physicist by trade, scrutinizes the changing nature of love in 'Your Name On My Lips,' a new musical about a young artist who fights to hold on to his soulmate as the materialistic world tugs at her. Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave., will present the work March 2 to 19.

Center Theatre Group will host six Community Conversations for 'Zoot Suit,' which returns to the Mark Taper Forum to celebrate Center Theatre Group's 50th Anniversary. This series of panel conversations on selected nights throughout the run will be open to the public and feature local thought leaders in dialogue about the context, issues and ideas finding voice on our stages.

Rehearsals have barely begun and Center Theatre Group is already announcing a one-week extension for 'Zoot Suit,' due to strong ticket sales.

Martin E. Segal Theatre Center Publications has announced that 'Journal of American Drama and Theatre, Volume 29, Issue 1' is now online for free.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, launches the Legacy Leaders of Color Video Project (LLCVP). Working with MOPED, a video production company, and with support from Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, TCG filmed a series of interviews chronicling the stories of founding leaders of theatres of color.

CASA 0101 Theater, Josefina Lopez, Artistic Director and the newly formed production company, Angel City Theater Ensemble (ACTE), Vance Valencia, Founder, will present the Los Angeles Premiere of the critically acclaimed play, MARIELA IN THE DESERT, written by Karen Zacarias, directed by Robert Beltran (Star Trek:  Voyager; Zoot Suit; Eating Raoul).  The production will be presented for a five-week run on the theater's Main Stage located at 2102 East First Street (at St. Louis Street), Boyle Heights, CA  90033 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and on Sundays at 5:00 p.m., November 4 - December 11, 2016.  There will be no performances on Thanksgiving Weekend, November 25th, 26th and 27th.
