Perseverance Theatre to Presnet Ruhl's IN THE NEXT ROOM

Perseverance Theatre presents In the Next Room or the vibrator play, by Sarah Ruhl. The play takes place at the dawn of the age of electricity and with that a groundbreaking piece of technology.  The perfect gentleman and inventor, Dr. Givings has created a device to treat "hysteria" in his patients by inducing "paroxysms" that attract the attention of his wife, who hears the sounds of success through the walls of his operating theatre.  Meanwhile, Mrs. Givings struggles with a new baby and her own urgent desires.  This modern comedy of manners is full of exploration and fulfillment.

Perseverance Theatre's classic tale of Christmas and starting over returns this season to Anchorage. (PT) Adapted from Charles Dickens' original by Arlitia Jones and Michael Evan Haney, A Christmas Carol is the most produced play in the country and concerns one Ebenezer Scrooge. He is a greedy and stingy businessman, with no place in his life for kindness, compassion, charity or benevolence. When Scrooge is visited by four ghosts, including his former business partner, Jacob Marley, he is warned to change his ways or face a miserable afterlife. Share Scrooge's miraculous transformation with the whole family and experience the remembrance of the true meaning of Christmas. It's never too late to change is Charles Dickens' message of hope and empowerment that reminds us of the meaning of the holidays we celebrate each year.

Perseverance Theatre (PT) will launch Summerfest '14: a six-week festival of three new plays, two by Alaskan writers and the 2013 Tony Award-winner for Best Play. The Alaska stories include the remount of the world premiere production of The Blue Bear adapted from Southeast writer Lynn Schooler's book, and Warriors, a world premiere by Alaskan author Dave Hunsaker about Alaska Natives in war at different times in history. The third play will be the hilarious 2013 Tony Award winner for Best Play: Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike by Christopher Durang. In addition to this programming, Perseverance will present public readings of new plays and offer professional training opportunities through its Alaska Summer Theatre Institute. Summerfest runsJune 28 through August 6 at the Juneau Arts and Culture Center (JACC) in Downtown Juneau.
