In the first of several high-profile appearances this season, Italian bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni earned universal acclaim for his star turn as Leporello in the Metropolitan Opera's new production of Mozart's Don Giovanni, which ran from October 13-November 11. He sang alongside such talents as Peter Mattei and Mariusz Kwiecien (as Don Giovanni), Barbara Frittoli (Donna Elvira) and Ramón Vargas (Don Ottavio), led by Met principal conductor Fabio Luisi.

The Italian bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni will take another featured turn on the Met stage as Caliban, alongside Placido Domingo and Joyce DiDonato, in The Enchanted Island - the company's freshly conceived Shakespearean tableau of music by Handel, Vivaldi, and Rameau, conducted by renowned Baroque authority William Christie (Dec 31-Jan 30).

The Enchanted Island, a world premiere work that combines Baroque music with a new, English-language libretto featuring characters from Shakespeare's The Tempest and A Midsummer Night's Dream, will premiere at the Metropolitan Opera on December 31, 2011.

The Met: Live in HD continued its sixth season Saturday with a live transmission of its new production of Don Giovanni, starring Mariusz Kwiecien, with an estimated attendance of 107,000 in North America earning a gross of $2.3 million. It was seen live on more than 850 screens.

Luca Pisaroni makes his Metropolitan Opera role debut as Leporello in the Met's new production of Mozart's Don Giovanni, conducted by Fabio Luisi (October 13-November 11). The Met Opera will beam the production to cinema audiences across the nation and around the globe with its HD broadcast on October 29.

British countertenor Iestyn Davies, named 2010's Royal Philharmonic Young Artist of the Year, looks forward to a landmark season.

This Monday sees the U.S. release of The Maltese Tenor, Joseph Calleja's third solo album for Decca Classics. To celebrate the event, Calleja will perform selections from the recording live on Monday evening at New York City's (Le) Poisson Rouge. Complete with special guest appearances, the concert will be webcast live on www.npr.org/music.
