BWW Review: Thunderbird American Indian Dance Concert and Pow Wow Celebrates Timeless Traditions Today

Join in the festive joy and fun at the 13th Annual Dance Parade, Saturday, May 18, with more than 10,000 paraders - students to professionals, young and old, with color, costumes, and music engaging in 80 unique styles of dance and culture.

Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, will present its 44th annual Thunderbird American Dancers Dance Concert and Pow Wow from January 25 to February 3, 2019. There will be dances, stories and traditional music from Native Peoples of the Northeast, Southwest and Great Plains regions. The event has become a treasured New York tradition for celebrating our diversity by honoring the culture of our first Americans.

Theater for the New City's annual LOVE N' COURAGE Gala - which benefits the company's ever-important program that supports emerging playwrights - will be held early next year on Monday, February 25 at 6 pm at the Players (16 Gramercy Park South) in New York City, it has been announced by TNC's Executive Director Crystal Field.

The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers are presenting their latest concert at Theater for the New City February 2-11, 2018. Directed by Crystal Field, the show incorporates live music, storytelling, and traditional dance in full regalia.

On the weekend of September 7-10 2017, the American Dance Guild (ADG) celebrated its 60th anniversary during their annual performance festival at The Ailey Citigroup Theater. This year's ADG Lifetime Achievement Awards went to three outstanding American dance masters: acclaimed and Tony-award winning choreographer, Garth Fagan; dance medicine pioneer and Dean of the American Dance Festival, Martha Myers; and Louis Mofsie, Founding Artistic Director of the renowned Thunderbird American Indian Dancers who have sustained the legacy of indigenous American Indian dances for the past 54 years.

Jazz Women of New York is a new all-woman band conceived by vocalist Lee Torchia.  The core group is pianist Jill McManus, bassist Melissa Slocum, drummer Sylvia Cuenca, flutist Andrea Brachfeld, and saxophonist Carol Sudhalter, with occasional subs from the female side of NY jazz.
