Paulo Szot, Joyce DiDonato To Join the New York Philharmonic in New Year's Eve Concert, 12/31

Tony Award winner and Metropolitan Opera baritone Paulo Szot will join Music Director Alan Gilbert, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, and the New York Philharmonic for the Orchestra's New Year's Eve celebration, Saturday, December 31, 2016, at 8:00 p.m., an evening of American classics including music by Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe, and Copland.

MasterVoices Presents ST. JOHN PASSION At Carnegie Hall, 2/9

MasterVoices (formerly The Collegiate Chorale), celebrating its 75th anniversary during the 2016-2017 season, presents St. John Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach on February 9, 2017 at 7pm at Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall (57th Street and 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10019).

San Francisco Opera Resident Conductor Jordi Bernàcer Takes the Podium for Performances 12/2–­ 8

Beginning this Friday, San Francisco Opera Resident Conductor Jordi Bernacer will take the podium to lead four programs over a span of seven days. Bernacer, who made his Company conducting debut with a performance of Bizet's Carmen last summer, will conduct the final fall season performances of Puccini's Madama Butterfly (December 4) and Verdi's Aida (December 6) at the War Memorial Opera House, a concert of opera scenes and arias showcasing the San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows at Herbst Theatre (December 2), and a concert featuring the string section of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra (December 8) in the intimate Dianne and Tad Taube Atrium Theater at the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera.

Alan Gilbert to Lead NY Phil in Brahms's Symphony No. 3 and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5; Facebook Live Broadcast 1/14

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in Brahms's Symphony No. 3 and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, Emperor, with Stephen Hough as soloist, Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 13 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 14 at 8:00 p.m. The January 14 performance will be broadcast on Facebook Live, the Philharmonic's second live concert broadcast on Facebook, following the 2016-17 season Opening Gala Concert. Hosted by WQXR's Terrance McKnight and directed by Habib Azar, the live, online broadcast - available at facebook.com/nyphilharmonic - will also feature live interviews with the evening's artists. The concert will be available for on-demand viewing on the Philharmonic's website, YouTube, and Facebook through August 31, 2017.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Releases First Symphonic Suite from Elektra

The latest collaboration between the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Reference Recordings, “Strauss: Elektra, Rosenkavalier,” featuring the world premiere of the first symphonic suite from Elektra, will be released in the United States on November 18 as part of the FRESH! series.

Alan Gilbert and New York Philharmonic Present World Premiere of THE JUNGLE By Wynton Marsalis, 12/28

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in the World Premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner Wynton Marsalis's The Jungle (Symphony No. 4), commissioned by the Philharmonic as the first of The New York Commissions, with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis; William Bolcom's Trombone Concerto with Principal Trombone Joseph Alessi as soloist; and Copland's Quiet City, featuring Principal Trumpet Christopher Martin and English horn player Grace Shryock in her Philharmonic solo debut.

The Dessoff Choirs Announces Holiday Line Up

Hailed as “one of the great amateur choruses of our time (New York Today) for its “full-bodied sound and suppleness (The New York Times),” The Dessoff Choirs celebrates the holidays as part of its 92nd season. This year, it presents a trio of concerts featuring seasonal repertoire and contemporary arrangements of carols, including Handel's Messiah, the quintessential classical music highpoint of the Christmas season; Bach's Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden, BWV 230, Gregg Smith's Twelve Days of Christmas; and Robert Parsons's Ave Maria, to name a few. Eric Owen Withdraws From Duo-Recital, Susanna Phillips To Perform Solo, 11/6

Carnegie Hall today announced that bass-baritone Eric Owens must regrettably withdraw from his upcoming duo-recital with soprano Susanna Phillips scheduled for this Sunday, November 6 at 3:00 p.m. in Zankel Hall due to illness. Ms. Phillips has agreed to instead offer a solo recital joined by pianist Myra Huang and clarinetist Alicia Lee.

New Pittsburgh Symphony Recording Of STRAUSS OPERA SUITES

This new recording presents orchestral suites based on two of the most significant operas in history. Der Rosenkavalier found its place in the concert hall from the beginning, first with two waltz sequences and later with the famous 1944 suite. But Elektra remained purely on the opera stage until now.

MasterVoices 2016 Fall Gala Raises More Than $200,000

MasterVoices raised over $200,000 at its 2016 Fall Galain support of its artistic and outreach programs on October 20. The event featured the New York premiere performance of Ricky Ian Gordon and Royce Vavrek's opera 27 starring Metropolitan Opera mezzo Stephanie Blythe as Stein, Heidi Stober, Theo Lebow, Tobias Greenhalgh, and Daniel Brevik directed by James Robinson and conducted by MasterVoices' Artistic Director Ted Sperling with 150 singers of MasterVoices and Orchestra of St. Luke's. The evening featured Scenic Design by Allen Moyer, Costumes by James Schuette and Lighting by James. F. Ingalls.

The Dessoff Choirs Opens 92nd Season With New Music Director, Malcolm J. Merriweather, 11/7

 Hailed as “one of the great amateur choruses of our time (New York Today) for its “full-bodied sound and suppleness (The New York Times),” The Dessoff Choirs, with soloists and orchestra, opens its 92nd season at Alice Tully Hall. For one night only, Dessoff presents We Remember including Mozart's Requiem and contemporary choral works reflecting on the lives of President John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and paying tribute to composer Steven Stucky, a champion of new music.
