Curtain up! Light the lights! Flat Rock Playhouse announced today plans for the second annual Theatre with the Stars! Due to the overwhelming success of the 2015 fundraiser, the State Theatre of North Carolina has decided to make this exciting afternoon of song, dance and theatre an annual event, whereby eight local "stars" will partner with Flat Rock Playhouse "pros" and compete with the hopes of raising the most votes to win the title as well as $1000 for their selected non-profit of choice.

For the fourth consecutive year, theatre students from all four Henderson County High Schools will team up Flat Rock Playhouse and Studio 52 artists to write, direct, and perform four original 10-minute plays - all within 24 hours.

Flat Rock Playhouse announced today that Sue Carpenter Fair has assumed the position of Director of Education for the newly formed Flat Rock Playhouse Studio 52, a division of the Vagabond School of Drama, est. 1952. A graduate of West Henderson High School, Florida A & M University and Florida State University with a degree in Theatre Education, Fair will be responsible for creating educational programs for Flat Rock Playhouse Studio 52 that will bridge the gap between the Playhouse and the community while building future audiences, nurturing growing theatre artists, bringing the arts into the local school and fostering at-risk children. She will report directly to Lisa K. Bryant, Artistic Director for Flat Rock Playhouse.

Presented by The Cliffs with BMW of Asheville serving as Opening Night Sponsor, Always…Patsy Cline is a heartwarming celebration of down home country humor, true emotion and twenty seven timeless classics including Crazy, Walkin' After Midnight, Sweet Dreams and I Fall to Pieces.

Flat Rock Playhouse announced today that they have been chosen by the new musical Chasing Rainbows: The Road to Oz to be the Developmental House for its world premiere.  Conceived and produced by New York City based producer Tina Marie Casamento Libby, Chasing Rainbows: The Road to Oz is a Broadway bound musical that chronicles the life of a young Judy Garland and explores the extraordinary journey to stardom that culminated in one of the most popular films of all time, The Wizard of Oz.  Developed at Goodspeed Musicals Johnny Mercer Colony in Connecticut, a NYC table read and a thirteen day developmental workshop at Belmont University in Nashville soon followed. A very successful AEA Staged Reading of this musical was also produced at New World Stages in New York City in September 2014.  After the Flat Rock Playhouse production, Chasing Rainbows: The Road to Oz will then transfer to another leading regional theatre for a pre-Broadway try out before its New York City bow.

Flat Rock Playhouse announced today the launch of Studio 52, a division of the Vagabond School of Drama, est. 1952. Kicking off for Summer 2015, Flat Rock Playhouse Studio 52 is an eight week long series of camps, intensives and mini seminars all focusing on Theatre, Musical Theatre and Film for all ages Kindergarten through adult.

Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF dares audiences to take a risk on new plays at PlayFest from this weekend, November 1 - 3, 2014. Presented by Harriett's Charitable Trust, the fast-paced weekend is packed with lively discussions, engaging playwright panels, and new play readings, along with a keynote speech from playwright Mark St. Germain. This season's event marks the twelfth festival of new plays at the Theater.

The Board of Trustees of Flat Rock Playhouse has announced that Lisa K. Bryant has been named the fourth Artistic Director in the 62 year history of the theater. Bryant has been serving as the Playhouse's Acting Artistic Director since May and prior to that was the Associate Artistic Director beginning in 2012.
