Whidbey Island Center for the Arts announces the headliner schedule for the second annual PianoFest Northwest from April 16 - 19, 2014. The four-day piano music festival will feature a Locals Night (4/16), as well as Classical (4/17), Latin (4/18), and Jazz Music (4/19). South Whidbey welcomes its newest festival, the inaugural PianoFest Northwest. The festival opens at WICA this week, July 19-21, 2013 Modeled after our world famous DjangoFest Northwest, and catering to music lovers who appreciate piano music that ranges from classical to contemporary, this event headlines three music talents, each unique to their genre.
Following national auditions, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the new appointments of Principal Timpanist James Wyman, Fourth Chair Viola Rebekah Newman, Second Trumpet Nathaniel Hepler and Second Horn Lisa Bergman; additionally, BSO Violist Karin Brown won an internal audition for the 3rd chair Assistant Principal Viola position. The appointees will begin in the upcoming 2013-2014 season.
Since 2000, the Studio Theatre has hosted the Louise Heck-Rabi Dramatic Playwriting One Act Festival, encouraging young playwrights to submit their original works. Each year, 6-7 semi-finalists are chosen out of all submissions. The plays are then read at a Workshop, where they are critiqued by judges. Three finalists win a scholarship as well as the opportunity to produce their play in front of a live audience. Each winning playwright has a chance to work with a student director and student performers to realize their productions on the stage.
