?Even if you've seen A Midsummer Night's Dream before, you've probably never seen it like this. Because you can't get any closer to the play's natural setting than the outdoor Cranbrook Greek Theatre.
St. Dunstan's Theatre Guild of Cranbrook is one of the oldest extant community theatres around and has been performing in its current theater since 1932. The group stays rigorously current, however, and this weekend will be offering a production of the Broadway favorite, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
A new CD, The Hours Begin to Sing, with songs by American composers performed by soprano Lisa Delan, has just been released on the PentaTone Classics label (PTC 5186 459).
In this endearing play, writer John Cariani introduces us to the people of northern Maine, their life experiences, their feelings, and their love stories. As the northern lights hover in the sky, the residents of Almost, Maine find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. The play consists of nine vignettes, all of which take place simultaneously on a snowy mid-winter evening, at a time when the town's denizens are experiencing 'magical moments.' The audience will recognize aspects of their own lives and relationships as the scenes unfold.

Christine Brewer has withdrawn from her scheduled performances as Brünnhilde in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen due to a knee injury that prevents her from performing the staging. To replace her in the role, the Met has engaged Iréne Theorin for the opening Die Walküre on April 6 (her company debut), and Katarina Dalayman for performances of Brünnhilde in Die Walküre and Götterdämmerung on April 25, 28, and May 2. Linda Watson, already scheduled to sing the third complete Ring cycle, May 4 - 9, will also sing Siegfried on April 30.
Christine Brewer and Linda Watson will share the role of Br?nnhilde in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen in all performances at the Met this season. Watson made her Met debut as Kundry in Wagner's Parsifal in April, 2003.
