St. Dunstan's Presents ALMOST, MAINE, 3/8-3/23

By:

In this endearing play, writer John Cariani introduces us to the people of northern Maine, their life experiences, their feelings, and their love stories. As the northern lights hover in the sky, the residents of Almost, Maine find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. The play consists of nine vignettes, all of which take place simultaneously on a snowy mid-winter evening, at a time when the town's denizens are experiencing "magical moments." The audience will recognize aspects of their own lives and relationships as the scenes unfold.

Almost, Maine inventively explores the mysteries of the human heart, touching audiences with laughter, heartbreak and hope. The New York Times describes this show as "A whimsical approach to the joys and perils of romance. Magical happenings bloom beneath the snowdrifts." Knees are bruised; hearts are broken. Love is lost, found, and confounded. But The Bruises heal and the hearts mend - almost.

The cast of Almost, Maine features many long-time members of St. Dunstan's Theatre, and also some talented new-comers. The women characters will be played by Peggy Lee (Orion Twp.), Janie Minchella (Sterling Heights), Pam Richards (Waterford), Kathleen Lietz (Royal Oak), and Ana Gomez (Birmingham). The men in these vignettes will be played by Chris Stepnitz (Clawson), Mark Drum (Farmington Hills), Chris Peterson (Sterling Heights), Jon Huegli (Pinckney), and Jeff Foust (Canton). Sandra Ann Prokopp (Huntington Woods) is thrilled to be directing this production of Almost, Maine. "

When I first read the script, I was drawn to this play. It offers something for everyone, because it deals with many different emotions and complexities of relationships," says Prokopp.

Prokopp is joined by an incredible production team with Jeff Foust (Canton) Assistant Directing, Jake Zinke (Canton) will be handling Sound Design as well as Producing, and Katie Kezelian (Royal Oak) is Stage Managing. St. Dunstan's also has a talented group of people who work behind the scenes: Obie Burch (Royal Oak) designed the lights and set with the help of Tom Edson (Bloomfield Hills), who headed up set construction. Costumes are designed by Linda Watson (West Bloomfield) and Pam Richards (Waterford), Hair by Anthony Marsalese (Bingham Farms), Makeup by Rachel Biber (Huntington Woods), and Props are being handled by Bob Yazejian (Bloomfield Hills).
