'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.' The opening line of Charles Dickens' classic novel seems quite apt in describing the current Regent's Park Open Air Theatre's season to date. With On the Town beset by injuries before it even started, its current production of A Tale of Two Cities looks to be under an equally unlucky star. With the first preview cancelled due to a lack of preparation time, and scenes having to be rejigged, it's a wonder it has opened on the planned date.

Bringing two of Charles Dickens's most popular stories out in the open as part of the 2017 season at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, Dickens Uncovered celebrates the greatest storyteller of London life.

English Touring Opera bring their first Gilbert and Sullivan production to The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, next month (May), along with a Puccini favourite.

'What a very singularly deep young man that deep young man must be!' You don't have to look very far in selfie-taking 2017 for an equivalent to the narcissism and aestheticism that are so thoroughly sent up in Gilbert and Sullivan's 1881 Patience. So perhaps it's best that director Liam Steel has left all that to look after itself, and instead of a topical satire has produced an unapologetic period romp, with just a few too many smutty moments for complete comfort.

After a UK tour that started at the Lowry before a three week run at The Place in the Spring and has spanned the country, May Contain Food is embarking on the final leg of its tour with a date in Stockton on the 24th November, and two London dates: artsdepot on the 26th, and then finishes at Shoreditch Town Hall on the 6th as part of Spitalfields Music Festival.

London's world-renowned venue Shakespeare's Globe makes its Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut with two shows from the acclaimed family-friendly series Shakespeare Untold, running today 5 - 31 August 2015 (previews 5 - 7 August; no shows 12, 19 & 26 August) at Pleasance Courtyard. Shakespeare Untold features Romeo and Juliet (The Party Planner's Tale) and Titus Andronicus (The Piemaker's Tale) by Harper Ray and Adam Sibbald, based on the plays of William Shakespeare.
