Blockchain Theater Project (BTP), founded by Sofia Alvarez and Nicola Korzenko, is a new theater company that empowers artists to produce the work they create, funded in part by cryptocurrency donations. Like Bitcoin and other blockchains, BTP eliminates the institutional gatekeeper, creating a peer-to-peer model of support where the next play to be produced will be nominated by the playwright of the current production. Alvarez's NYLON will start this chain.
The Los Angeles premiere of Fifty Words by Michael Weller has been announced for a limited run at the Lounge Theatre in Hollywood. Featuring Olga Konstantulakis and Eric Larson and directed by Shane Stevens, the limited run opens March 1 at 8pm and runs through April 7 only.
The McCallum Theatre presents Catskills on Broadway on Friday, February 22, at 8:00pm. But he's just a bank teller at National Savings and Trust. Why him? No one will tell him anything. So he waits anxiously in an empty room off … the West Wing? There's a woman named Alice. And someone called “The Rabbit.” There's a “Mad Hatter” and a “Red Queen,” too. Is something ghastly going on in the White House? Joseph just wants to do his civic duty. But what exactly is that when you're down the rabbit hole, and through the looking glass? Directed by Jan Zvaifler Wonderland features a cast that includes Martha Brigham*, John Patrick Moore*, Kimberly Ridgeway and Clive Worsley (*member AEA). Beetlebung Road LLC, a new theater production company, will launch November 15 to December 9 with a bi-coastal production of Sam Shepard's 'Fool for Love,' to be presented November 15 to December 2 by Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave., Manhattan and December 6 to 9 by The Lounge Theatre, 6201 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles. The production, directed by Kymberly Harris, will arise from a careful artistic process of immersion on many levels. The company chose to debut at Theater for the New City (TNC) as part of that process: to honor and recapture the path of Shepard's 'Buried Child,' which was commissioned by TNC and premiered there in 1978.

At 30, Filipino actor and model Jake Cuenca, who's been acting on film and TV since the age of 10, is trying his hands at acting onstage for the first time via 'Lungs,' a straight play written by Duncan MacMillan and was based on a novel of the same name. The play is co-produced by The Sandbox Collective and 9 Works Theatrical.
