Two seasoned theatre professionals, one from New York and one a Detroit native, have joined forces to launch the Detroit Public Theatre (DPT). Detroit's newest performing arts institution will open in residence at the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center in October 2015. The inaugural season of Detroit Public Theatre opens with the Michigan Premiere of the dark comedy, American Hero by Bess Wohl, on October 30, 2015. Kathy Evans, Founding Executive Director of Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, announced the 17 writers and 8 new musicals selected for the fifth summer of weeklong retreats. For eight consecutive weeks beginning July 5th, each writing team will have a residency in Rhinebeck, New York. Writers are provided a private home, transportation, food, and a $400 stipend. This year's writers include Obie winner Kirsten Childs, Tony nominee Elizabeth Davis, and 2015 Jonathan Larson award-winners Charlie Sohne, Tim Rosser, and Sam Willmott, who also just won the Kleban Prize.
Dorset Theatre Festival's New Play Development Program is off to a great start this summer, with the announcement of a $10,000 NEA grant to support DTF's commitment to new work. DTF will continue to host its popular New Play Reading Series this year, and for the first time will collaborate with the Marble House Project and hold the readings in the Marble House Event Barn.
