Last night, Live Source Theatre Group (Tyler Mercer, Co-Founder & Executive Artistic Director; Chris Dieman, Co-Founder & Artist in Residence) held its annualSpring Gala, honoring designers Reid Bartelme and Harriet Jung for their outstanding contribution to costume design. Bartelme and Jung, co-founders of the costume and fashion design company Reid & Harriet, have designed costumes for Justin Peck, Pontus Lidberg, Marcelo Gomes, Pam Tanowitz, Emery Lecrone, Kyle Abraham, Mauro Bigonzetti, and Doug Varone. They have costumed productions at American Ballet Theater, New York City Ballet, Miami City Ballet, and Pacific Northwest Ballet. Along with Justin Peck, they are featured in the documentary Ballet 422 which premiered at the 2014 TriBeCa Film Festival.
American Ballet Theatre has announced a continuation of its in-house choreographic program with the launch of ABT Incubator. It was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie.
A classic from Spanish choreographer Nacho Duato alongside world premieres by Danielle Rowe and James Sofranko highlight SFDanceworks' third season June 8 - 10. Rounding out the program is a duet by Penny Saunders, a recent recipient of the Princess Grace award for choreography. A dancer's dancer, when asked about how the work is connected to her greater body of choreography, she said her “focus is on what comes naturally; I never want the dancers to stop themselves.”

On the afternoon of April 22nd at the Joyce Theater in NYC, the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company gave the final performance of a six-day run that offered three different programs to celebrate Lubovitch's 50th anniversary as an internationally acclaimed choreographer. Program A featured the Martha Graham Dance Company while Programs B added Joffrey principal dancers to Lubovitch's own roster of superb dancers, and Program C added students from the George Mason University School of Dance to the list of performers.

Juilliard announced today that Alicia Graf Mack, former leading dancer of Dance Theatre of Harlem and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, will become director of the Juilliard Dance Division on July 1, 2018. Juilliard Dance is widely recognized as one of the most prestigious training programs in the world, offering instruction in both ballet and modern techniques designed to create true contemporary dancers and choreographers.
Verb Ballets, Northeast Ohio's premiere contemporary ballet company, to showcase at EJ Thomas Hall on April 27, 2018 with an exciting mix of dances on the program. George Mason University is a bit of a trek when discussing arts organizations in the DMV area. If Saturday night's School of Dance Fete and Gala Concert is any indicator, then this trek is worth making. Celebrating the strides Mason's (still young) dance program has made in recent years, the evening was a unique combination of educational panels and dance showcases. With four moving performances capping off the evening, Mason's dance program cements itself as one to not be underestimated.
